Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Show us your gravel/cross bike...

see, i just can't do it yet. i've only had the surly frame a bit over a year. i figure i'll go through the rest of the winter with it, then see aobut swapping for the on-one. i can likely sell the surly to help defray the cost a bit. parts will just get swapped over.

all about the aesthetics; i just think the on-one looks hella better than the surly.

Surly hubs/Mavic hoops, swapped to QR axles, with bolt on ti skewers. King headset, Titec ti stem, Titec Malone bar - cut obviously; I never use the drops on this thing. Paul brakes, with Shimano something or other levers. USE ti post (from my mtb-i bent the thing; after cutting the bent half off, it was only long enough to use on this bike) and Performance house brand ti rail junk saver seat. Action-Tec ti bb, Shimano LX crank with generic 38T ring, alu crank and ring bolts. Wellgo ti axle pedals. 15T fixed cog, 18T freewheel; spends the majority of its time running fixed.

For the anal fit/sizing types who are gonna' have a fit over this one: Deal. I don't race. This is my commuter, sans rack and fenders at the moment. It's comfy. It fits. It sees the once or twice a month trail ride out at Hall Ranch. Nice to spin out there fixed, flip the wheel to hit the trail for a bit, then reverse the process to come home.

I love the bike. Rides road or dirt very well. Though I can't help lusting behind its back for an On-One Il Pompino frame to replace the Surly..........
Cool! Another SS/Fixie crosscheck! Here's a couple of pictures of mine that I just finished building up. Haven't much opportunity to ride it yet, just one fixed ride in the snow (hence the fenders). Can't wait to try it offroad.

I bought a lot of the parts on ebay or through various end of year sales. The frame is used and the seller had already removed all the frame decals - looks kinda cool that way.

Built up the wheels with a Surly flip/flop rear, 105 front laced to Alex DA28 rims with some cheap Ritchey SpeedMax tires. Deore crank, 36T ring, 15T fixed, 17T freewheel. LX cantis with cheap Shimano levers. Crankbros Candy pedals with matching Livestrong bracelets, very happy with how the colour scheme turned out

Here's my 2004 Kona Jake. With a few modifications: Shimano BR-R550 Cantis. EVO carbon cyclocross fork. Selle Italia SLR gel flow saddle. Race face seat post (cuz the original seat, and post, was stolen ). Pazzaz carbon stem. Xero XSR-3 wheels. And fenders and stuff to keep the crap off of me...

That is a nice ride. I use an old Paramount mtb as a pit bike for cross. It works out really well.

Cool. You've got 6 mos to train anyways till the races start in Sept. DFL's usually start then, along w/ EBCX.

I've been doing my training strictly on my Il Pompino. My IF has been sitting quietly, sometimes on the trainer.

Hate to be nitpicking but bikes with disk breaks are no cross bikes according to UCI regulations. And I would never call commuter bikes with fenders, road tires, headlights and a pump a cross bike.

Not to start a war, but, that's like arguing that you cannot be rididng a CX bike unless you're racing, because then it's not a CX bike.

You’re not allowed to ride with fenders either, at least not in Norway.
That I can understand for security reasons, but the disk brake I don’t get.
I mean. I got fairly good canties (Paul neo retro) and ceramic rims, but they still suck during wet conditions.
And road tires. Well. I guess that’s a matter of taste, but I’ll recon it involves a good amount of shouldering.
