The thing that annoys me on CL is the Keyword Spammer. These bozos throw in a ton of "related" words into every ad which makes it really annoying to actually search for the items they are listing in their keyword spam that they are NOT selling but every search you make for those items turns up their SPAM ads in your search results anyhow.
Every once in a while I will do a CL search for the words "Keyword" or "Keywords" and flag every single ad that is in the list.
I hates keyword spammers.

Yes. Keyword Spammers suck bigtime. I also hate the guys who list a pair of something for a price, and then the text of the ad says that's the price each. Price bait-and-switchers in general. And the multiposters. I reeeeally don't think ten ads are gonna sell your fixie any faster than one would.
Me ---> <--- CL
hahahaha and that's my rant for the day. Happy hunting!

It's not the worst, you're right. But I saw it again last night and just wanted to scream, so I brought it here. At least change up the picture. Or text. SOMETHING. The only thing that's been altered since day one was the addition of the "not a real bike" disclaimer after month two. I know this because I often stop by to flag it.

I know the feeling. A guy has had a pair of planet bike fenders on CL for over a year. A YEAR. $29! Woo Hoo! Same as retail!
Is there some kind of scam where it pays to post the same item over and over and over? I don't get it.

If nothing else, searching the "sold" listings will give him some idea what his model is really worth.

Maybe you could tell him to join Schwinnbikeforums and try to sell it there. Somebody will probably buy it.

That struck me as sheer genius, right up until I checked eBay and found this auction closing out. Zero bids at $15 for the same thing in red. If there's an appreciative audience, I think they don't use the interwebs.

[h=2]White Miyata Nine 14 road bike w Shimano comp. - $200 (san jose downtown)[/h]very nice white Miyata road bike. fully tuned and ready to ride. asking 200 o.b.o
The 914 is a very good bike and $200 is a fair price. The seller, however, doesn't seem to know much about his (stolen?) bike. Fully tuned? Take a look at the left shifter and which ring the chain is on. It's also pretty dirty. Why don't people just take a rag and a bit of soap and water? It's so easy to do.

Here's one from a a seller that seems pretty delusional. Aparantely this is a grail level bike despite having damaged frame and fork.

On the other end, there's a frequent seller here in SoCal who always photographs their bikes in some backyard. Their cleaning method appears to be hosing the bikes down with huge blasts of water--every single photo shows the bikes dripping with water (including the drivetrain).

Not saying it's the case here but I used to collect diecast cars, certain colors of the same car were worth a lot of money due to low production numbers while the same car in a common color had zero collector value. Might be the case here, might not, still shouldn't be listed with the real bikes though. I run into the same crap when looking parts for my Studebaker, page after page of diecast and magazine ads.
I wouldn't even take a flying jump at the value of any "collector's item" other than the few things I know about first-hand. I bet a lot of "normal" folks would never think that a derailleur off of a 40 year old bike could easily bring $100 on ebay and another similar model by the same manufacturer wouldn't be worth what it would cost to ship it.
I do know that with action figures one that has the hands open may be worth almost nothing but one with a clenched fist that looks identical in every single way in the same NIB condition and the same markings and identical packaging may be worth 10x or even 100x more.

Picked up an old Giant Cadex today. Looks like a 1993 carbon frame with 105 components. $50.00 Got it home. It all works and no cracks. Just needs new tires/tubes and bar tape. Daddy just got a new commuter. I love Colorado. So many bike deals.

I'm jealous. For reasons I can't explain to you or myself, I'd love to get one of those. My neighbor has one sitting unridden in his garage, and if it was my size, I'd be after him to sell it. It's too big for me, but it's immaculate. If it was the right price, I'd buy it just to look at it. Yours was definitely the right price.
