Old Peugeot Appraisal
I saw this at the Salvation Army store today for $30. I don't need it, but I was curious if this is decent or not. I don't know Peugeot frames so I have no idea. I didn't see a model name, just a serial number.
I wouldn't dare ride tires this skinny on roads around here. It was about my size though.
It has what must be debris-scraper-offers (???) over the tires, which was interesting.

That might be a PR-10, just below the PX-10, as it has Reynolds 531 only on the 3 main frame tubes, and no chrome on rear triangle. That was my first bike, back in 1972. If it fits it would be a good rider. Those are sticker flickers, as we called them in Oklahoma City, back in those days. And because the brakes didn’t have recessed bolts, and those bikes came with sow ups, just about everyone had them. I’m the only one (using Sheldon Nuts to mount on recessed brake nuts), who still has them on local group rides, and people just don’t appreciate them, “they will slow me down!” Should I wave when they have a flat?

Yeah, that’s definitely not a UO8 or other low end. No “aztec” lugs with the square cutouts, and it has forged dropouts with integrated derailleur hanger. For $30, get it.

Cottered crank but simplex dropout...hmm.
Pr10 was my guess too but once I saw components maybe something like PA10?

U08 Peugeots seem to have a cult following over there. For the condition and authenticity, I would have walked out with it at that price.

I'm curious how we know this about the frame, given the absence of a 531 decal of any sort. But 531 or not, at $30 I'd buy it for the brakes and whatever other assorted parts I could use.

It's an early 70's Peugeot PA-10, their amateur racing model. Gitane had their Interclub model plus most of the other French makers offered similar bikes.
Those style bikes came with sewups for racing and sold in the $125-$150 list price range.
Peugeot only used those lugs on a few models.

I stand corrected, on the lack of 531 sticker, and the crankset, predating the PR-10.

It’s a PA-10 with Bocama model 14 type II lugs. The only Peugeots I’ve seen with those lugs are PA-10 and P-10s. For $30 it’s a steal. If it fits you and you set it up mostly stock it’ll be a lot of fun to ride and will be another example of how the French has a way with gaspipe.

Well, I thought it over but there's no way I can take on another bike or the associated tooling. Too bad, it'd be fun to have, but if you saw my workspace you'd realize there's no room at the inn. But thanks for all the replies, it's very interesting to learn all this.
