Should I down size for a BMC road bike?
Hi, I’m looking to buy a BMC Teamachine. I ride 54cm in Giant. I went to a shop and they told me I would be 54cm in Specialized too. They also told me I would be 51 cm in BMC. They didn’t had any BMC there when I visited and the shop is 9h drive from my home so it’s hard to go back. I’m 5’9 3/4. Do you think a 51 cm would be good? They mesured me at 53 cm there.

I think that BMC frames are sized so that people typically go down one size. I ride a 54 cm SLO2, and it's the smallest frame I own. I also ride a steel Univega in 58 cm,comfortably.
My suspicion is that the frame design of many carbon fiber frames renders the sizing system used by traditional steel frames virtually irrelevant. So don't get hung up on sizes, just find something that gives you the amount of reach and leg extension you need. Make sure the settings you plan on using for stem length and seat post height are in the middle of the range of adjustment for that frame size, nothing is maxxed out, so you can adjust up or down easily. That ought to be, in theory, the best possible size. Numbers are very much irrelevant.
