Weird crankset

Weird crankset
Hey folks,
I'm working on a friends bike; It’s at least six years old.
He is getting noise from the crankset, so I was going to pull the cranks and check the bottom bracket.
The Shimano cranks say Hollowtech, but no mention of “2”.
The cranks have NO pinch bolts.
I’ve taken the caps off with my 8mm wrench.
My crankpuller (Park CCP-22) does nothing. It mounts, screws all the way in and does, well, nothing.
I have googled and YouTubed all I can, but every single mention of Hollowtech cranks seems to be talking about Hollowtech 2, and they all include pinch bolts, which are not on these cranks.
I would include a pic, but I am
a newbie and am not allowed.

Hollowtech cranks and BBs need an extractor with a larger diameter pressure "plate" then a tapered square unit needs. The CP-22 is for a tapered square set up. The current CCP-44 is the correct tool. Also a CCP-7 or any tapered square tool with the adaptor "plug" that Shimano has offered, the TL-FC10. Andy

The HT Deore crank on my Raleigh hybrid is standard square taper. I'll assume the OP has an octalink BB.

The first Hollowtech (aka HTI) bottom brackets were "Octalink" cartridge units with a larger diameter splined spindle. The current HTII bottom brackets are external bearing designs and the crank has the spindle built into the driveside arm.
