I found an ad on CL with a very dark and out of focus photo of a Cannondale. The background was more in focus; definitely a used furniture store. Seller did not speak bike. I went back and forth with emails with seller; each of his email responses took a day or two. Very little info. The drive was almost 2 hrs away; I took a chance and I took a half day at work and drove out. It was indeed a used furniture store. There she was, hanging for the beam of an old barn converted to a store. At the previously agreed price, I was definitely taking this bike home. The owner came out and I asked, "got any other parts?". "oh, sure a ton", he said. Out came a couple boxes, pedals, seatposts, saddles, handlebars; all 70s/80s stuff. So, I asked him how much of the lot. Then I was out the door.
So, my advice; Always, always ask "what else you got?"

The black pedals are Campagnolo. I put those towards the top of the list of the goodies I got in the boxes. In the past when I have purchased vintage Campy equipped bikes, the pedals always seem to be the missing component from the group set. I finally got a pair. The second most frequently missing part seems to Campy levers. This bike was indeed missing the Campy levers. Were levers a buy-up when the Nuovo or Super Record group set was sold? Or were levers just the most frequently damaged and replaced part?

A bump to the dis-assembly:
I stripped the Nishiki today (except for the fork) and it was in better shape than I had hoped. The bottom bracket shell is clean except for some residue at the bottom.
I was sure I would need to replace all of the BB internals, but they were in good shape. They are having a mineral spirits bath now. Even the fixed cup came off easily. The fork will come off tomorrow so I can rebuild the headset.
The brakes came out of a six day Evaporust bath. The rust on the steel bolts, nuts, and such is gone; but I was amazed that most of the white aluminum corrosion was gone as well. That was not expected.
The derailleurs and shifters are soaking in Evaporust now along with a couple of small steel nuts & bolts.

By dumb luck I had a gray Nishiki women's saddle in my stash of parts. I had to replace the cables & housings, as well as the chain. I substituted the original rat-trap pedals for new rubber block. I figured that the drops needed to go, so uprights were added with a riser stem. It is currently set up tall so I could take a test ride.
This bike has Suntour SVX derailleurs. I didn't know they existed, but they may have been the last incarnation of "V" series derailleurs. They work great, and the front is low-normal.
I plan to list it on CL in the next week or so. If that doesn't work it will go to the coop.

Ha, I was actually going to ask if they might have been the actually Campagnolo pedals the others seemed to be derived from, but I didn't think you were THAT lucky... Nice job! Enjoy them.

Picked these up today for free from an older couple who haven't ridden in 10 years. They wanted to make space in their garage. The Kona is a '96 and as always it's my size so going to keep that. Just need to find a closer to oem stem as it was replaced with a riser. And of course replacing the bars and saddle but other than that, the frame is in excellent shape, definitely just street ridden. The Novara will be flipped as I don't ride hybrids. Repair stand is a keeper as a back up. Pump will be another back up. The rest will be donated.

I'm out of space. I had to choose between the two and the Kona fits in with my other 80's/90's mountain bikes. I already have a drop bar conversion project in the works so something has to go.

Picked up this interesting Caloi Pro frameset yesterday. I can't seem to find any info about its original spec, but I'm most likely going to build it up as an ultralight flatbar road bike.

Picked-up a couple of freebies today to stock up on parts. The most notable was this Joe Murray designed Marin Bear Valley. Pretty beat-up but still straight and most oem parts are still on it. The top tube decals were just little snips left but after an hour of research I came the conclusion it's a Bear Valley. An '87. Check out what someone did with the front brakes. Oh the humanity! lol
