Is a sub 20# recumbent trike possible?
Is there any possibility of a sub 20# recumbent trike in the near future? As a DF biker I really liked my 15 or 16# road bikes. I am now a triker and would like to have a trike in this weight range. I know an extra wheel and a couple miles of chain make this difficult. Also, throw in a seat that is more like a recliner than the super small road bike seats. However, there are a number of 12# bikes actually available. Therefore, could there be a sub 20# trike?

23lb: Carbontrikes (Sweden)
The rims and hubs in the photo are metal. Replacing them with carbon counterparts might drop it under 20lb. The chain may also not be the lightest available.

Also, go to a lighter double crank setup, junk the rear fender, lighter pedals, lighter seat pad, just to name a few more things. There is still room to cut weight on the CarbonTrike.

Trident showed their Gossamer SL @ Recumbent Cycle-Con in October with a claimed weight of 21.8lbs/9.9kg. It featured a chromoly frame.
They don't seem to list this as a standard production model.

Absolutely! "Strong, light, cheap. Pick any 2."
It might require a frame material breakthrough but I doubt it. I'm kind of thinking that the using the absolute lightest and least amount of everything that's available today would do it. I'm not sure how useful it would be when you got done.

Carbontrikes $9-11K. Suspect weight closer to 25#. Price assumes head rest, seat pad and shipping from Sweden.
Snazzy bike however.

Trident Trikes Gossamer SL trike is currently being built for special orders as I understand. I believe they have 6 or 7 built and delivered. I'm not sure of the price. I had a chance to check it out at RCC last October. I actually lifted it over my head with one arm!
The weight is 21 pounds! And I believe it is built out of carbon fiber and not Chrome Moly steel.
