Power cuts off after exactly 5 minutes
Power cuts off after exactly 5 minutes
I have and I zip 24 V electric bike with Hall motor, New 24 V battery and original controller.
I never got to test with the old battery, but with the new battery power cuts out after exactly 300 seconds.
This happens whether the bike is in motion or not. The battery does not cut out after 300 seconds when attached to a multimeter.
I am assuming there is a sensor in the wheel that detect whether the bike is in motion or not, and will cut power if no motion is detected.
I am assuming this is faulty, and is no longer detecting motion when the bike is moving/wheels spinning. Bike has a thumb throttle, so not related to crank movement.
Has anyone encountered this problem? I would be most grateful for any suggestions how to troubleshoot and resolve.
Thanks Matthew Perth Western Australia

If the cuts happen only when the bike is idle, I would consider it a benefit. But, it is apparently cutting out 300 seconds into a ride and that points to a controller problem. Something inside may be heating up and clipping the circuit.

It's too specific a time to be caused by operation. The system does indeed automatically turn itself off after a set time if it's not being used (my system is 5 mins) and so it does sound like this is still activating even when being used. This should never happen so i can't see it being in the settings/parameters, but that'd be the first thing i'd try before i start replacing stuff.

My system shuts off similarly, but only when not moving for a time.
I do not know if there is a sensor in my wheel or not, but a good close-up photo of all the motor/controller connections would give some good info with which to make a reasonable guess. Hint - there should be at least three thickish phase wires, and five thinner connections for Halls, if it is a sensored motor, and any additional connections would either be for a speedo, or temperature sensor. If there are no additional wires, then that would leave controller issue as the problem, SFAIK.
If you do have an extra wire, check the connector pins carefully and test wire for continuity and readout on multimeter with wheel spinning.

I think Currie and IZip are the same product, and there's wiring diagrams available on this page.
Wiring Diagrams - The Currie Tech Dealer Wiki
If your model is on that page look it up and maybe tell the guys which one it is.
