Mtb shoes and Speedplay pedals...
I thought I would post this here thinking that maybe someone had tackled this problem before..
I have some practically brand new SpeedplayX pedals, and I would like to use them mainly on the road.
I don't like having them on a pair of road shoes for a couple of reasons. 1) they are cumbersome weird on the bottom of my feet (kinda like my old Look pedals...) 2) the covers are a PITA to put on and off, and keep track of. If you have ever walked through mud with them on you will soon find out that the suction from the mud will pull them right off your feet.
So my question is this; Has anyone found a good mountain shoe/Speedplay X combination?

You won't find mountain shoes that can take those cleats. They require a 3-hole (LOOK style) drilled sole, which is not available on any mountain shoe that I have ever seen. Road pedals are generally not designed for the cleats to be walked in- performance on the bike is their only reason for existing. I have been using X-2 pedals for a long time, and I really like them, but if I walkability is a concern, they are not the right answer.

'Frogs' is the Speedplay SPD 2 bolt type.. for MTB shoes..
perhaps you can find some of Lake's Spinning Gym shoes,
they built up the toe and heel, thick, around the 3 bolt Look type cleats,
to get some stability off the bike, on the gymnasium floor of the health club.

I currently have eggbeater'3 on all 3 of my bikes. I really like them too. I've noticed they begin to get creaky as the cleats wear.
I just have this pair of Speedplay X's on my bench and not doing much but taking up space. I probably will sell them off and get a pair of Crank Bro Candy. That way I don't have to change cleats, or shoes.
I like to use a Mtn bike shoe for commuting because they don't slip like my Look pedals. Which incidentally isn't really a problem unless you have to stop suddenly.
Thanks!

If you want MTB pedals, Crank Brothers, Shimano, Time ATAC. I've used them all. Advantages/Disadvantages of all of them. I like/hate each of them for different reasons. However, I ride with CB because the pedals will work with both my MTB and road shoes.
