I don't know who this guy is, but he probably has gout; the prominence on his elbow (and also on the metatarsophalangial joint in the foot) are likely tophi (deposits of uric acid crystals), not "enlarged bones".

Here's my happy ending: Medical experts discover that Blood-doping is responsible for Lances' miraculous comeback from cancer. The disease is wiped out as people adopt this method of preventative therapy. Lance is pardoned. A special lifetime award is presented to him at the base of the Eiffel Tower with all the world in attendance.

I think what we are going to learn from Lance's debacle is that all of the greatest athletes from the beginning of time where the biggest dopers. In fact, there is underlying evidence starting to emerge that all the top athletes were the slowest and weakest kids in their high schools who were picked on and they turned the tables by juicing. Only a theory at this time however.

This reminds me a bit of the episode of "House, M.D." where a pro cyclist is suddenly stricken by illness just after the season ends. In the end they figure that his doping was in fact keeping the undiagnosed illness in check.

Hard to believe Hamilton or Landis when they so vehemently denied that they doped - and then finally admitted to it. Hard to believe many people these days - especially when the rewards are so big (the ends justify the means??)

Sure Hamilton and Landis have credibilty issues, but looking at the totality of the evidence, it's pretty obvious to the vast majority of rational people, that at least the core of what Hamiltion and Landis are claiming is true.
1) When they denied drug use it was in their self interest. Speaking up to admit their own drug use was against their self interest, and thus, all else equal more credible.
2) there are 24 other witnesses.
3) there are cash trails.
4) there are positive drug tests.
5) there is the biological pass port evidence.
6) there's the fact that everyone else (with the exception of one guy, who's at least under suspicion) on the podium in those 7 years, has been shown to have doped or admitted doping, etc, etc, etc,
Step outfrom in front of the mountain of evidence before it crushes you.

I have a little different perspective on this. I started riding to recover from colon cancer. Riding probably saved my life when my cancer spread into my liver. Someone gave me "It's not about the Bike" when I was first diagnosed, and it scared the hell out of me. But I found Lance extremely inspirational, given my situation. LiveStrong does great things for cancer patients. Lance is clearly a major league a-hole, but the things he has done for those of us with cancer, and those of us who have been inspired by him to beat it, mitigates at least some of it. I've read Tyler's book, and I fully believe Lance doped, lied, and screwed many people to get where he is. But he, to an extent, helped save my life. I've taken off my LiveStrong bracelet, but I know what Lance did for me.

Trust me on this...everyone knew what was going on, eyes wide open, when they arrived (because it was going on with whatever team they were on previously). But the paycheck trumped the risk. To think otherwise is a total joke.
Ironic how guys like Heras tried to go it alone as a leader, got out from under the program they were on and got busted.
Regardless of the methods, Armstrong was able to get the best guys because they knew they had hitched their wagon to a winner. Remember Tour #5?

It's the best book about what pro bike racing is really like. I laughed when I read it because it was "yeah, I remember that..." Like watching guys shoot up in the race. You want to see bike handling skills watch someone stick a hypodermic needle into their leg while racing a bike.
