Crankset Mystery

Wife's ancient Specialized Crossroads has the following weird crankset:

Shimano SR Suntour PFF
170mm arm
3/32 chain
48/38/28 teeth cranksets
110mm bottom bracket
9 speeds on the back

The 28 tooth ring is bent and the others are missing teeth. Seems 110mm bracket triple cranksets are a thing of the past and even Shimano customer service said I was SOL.

I would like to repair at lowest cost and get another year or two out of this bike -- any advice??? I think a new 28 tooth ring would be the easiest as missing teeth on the 38/48 doesn't seem to be hurting usability but maybe replacing whole thing would be easier -- would prefer to not having to buy a new bottom bracket too - Ugh -- Thanks!!

If there's a bike co-op near you, odds are that they'll have a complete crank (used) that will fit at a good price. You might need to also replace the spindle, but they'll have that too.

Otherwise your crank likely is a standard 110 BCD crank with a 94mm BCD inner position, and rings are readily available. You can easily determine the bolt circle diameter (BCD) by measuring between adjacent bolts and multiplying by 1.7. Once you've confirmed the right BCD shop for whatever rings you want to replace.

FYI Shimano and SR Suntour are different companies, so I'm not sure what's going on there. I'm assuming it's a SR Suntour crankset as that's a common brand of low-end cranksets.

I'm guessing it's a cheap crankset, so the chainrings may not be replaceable. Are there chainring bolts? If not, it's time for a new crankset. Something like this is a cheap replacement:

https://www.amazon.com/SR-Suntour-Cr...rds=sr+suntour

However, buying a new crankset may mean you'll likely have to replace the bottom bracket as well, so you get the right chainline.

The bent ring can likely be straightened, the "missing" teeth are probably the shift gates which don't need fixing. Total cost, a little time.

Exactly, what's the mystery? It's very possible that three company's parts are on one bike WRT the cranks. Again where pictures might cut through limited or incomplete data/story. Andy.
