Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mr. ArmSTRONG

Just read on www.thepaceline.com (check out the site) that Lance said he is "happy with the way it ended and he is not coming back"

What do you make of this...is he for real, or is he just playing mind games with Jan and the bunch?

I think it will be February before we know for sure. Just enough time to prepare.

I saw him on the Today show this AM. They point blank asked him and he responded rather coyly. I just wonder if he's f'ing with the French press right back.

Edit: Mark my words--No tour #8.

I'm a fan and supporter of Lance, but I hope CastIron is right. Lance has had a great run, but it would just continue the crud about whether he has or hasn't taken performance enhancing drugs into the future. The wheel won't stop turning even if he wins another tour and, if he loses, fingers will point and say, "See! See!"

Besides, I think it'll be more interesting to see guys like Ulrich and Basso slugging it out.

Time for a new day.

Seeing more of Basso's sister wouldn't hurt either.

i think and hope he'll stay away. i think part of it is that he might already be missing the limelight and is letting rumors fly just to keep people talking. just my opion though.

He knows he f****ed up and will make up for '99. Just to appease those fans who felt jilted and justify the number 7.

I have a feeling he's finished. They just got him a little riled up. After all... who hasn't threatened to "come over there and kick your a$$" a few times in their life?

They found EPO in one of two samples with the second sample needed for confirmation, but the second sample's long gone. And the sample they did find EPO in was to remain anonymous.

Oh yeah, the French did it better.

Let's kill this thread already. This is the most recent from Velo News.

"I am happy with the way my career went and I am happy with the way it ended. I am not coming back," Armstrong said. "There is no way I can go back there (France). I would be crazy, so why don't we all just say I am not going back."

Armstrong retired after his seventh consecutive Tour de France victory and said that anyone would be more than content with a record like that.

"I know if I go back there is no way I am going to get a fair shake in the lab, on the roadside, in the hotel, in my food," he said. "I am sick of dealing with this sh#t. I got three kids in the pool right now and they are screaming my name."

Look at the NY Times this morning 9/16/05. Front page of the Sport section. I think he has said what he wants to do pretty emphatically.

This is why I like the man so much! Lance! Lance! Lance! (but I'm not one of his kids, and I'm not in the pool) Think what he could do to invigorate American events during his retirement...

Then they took the rest of the samples and added to level off the wine barrels.

In today's article in the Seattle Times he is quoted as saying he's not racing anymore, drug allegations notwithstanding. In fact, he state facing would just stir up more crap like that.
