How do you "advertise" this forum?
I tend to mention BF C&V to people I encounter who are (or might be) into the bikes we like. Something occurred to me recently though. When I have small stuff to sell, I often hawk those items here first, then if they don't sell and I overcome the inertia, I toss them up on eBay (for more $$ to offset fees and such). It occurred to me that I should include a little flyer in the box saying something like, "You might check out the Bike Forums Classic & Vintage forum at ..."

The only other internet place I really frequent these days is Paceline and I will occasionally refer folks who are trying to sell C+V parts or need info on older bikes. Otherwise I view this place as a destination on a spiritual journey that must be undertaken alone.

Targeted advertising
I've done two 'advertising' actions in the last year (and, probably that means last three years). But neither were out to the general public.
My east coast buddy who rides a steel classic with friction shifters, I sent a link to my thread about rebuilding the Ironman. And I suggested that he keep the C&V group in mind for keeping his bike going.
Then, at a water refill, a fellow cyclist gave a "nice classic bike", we chatted and I told him "bike forums dot net" has an active community.
I confess to some selfishness: I love the community here and hope it continues, and try to contribute in my small way, but I think that the fact that it's people who are really interested is part of what makes it work.

I also don't advertise the C&V section too much because (usually, disregarding covid boredom) this is a part of the internet that doesn't dissolve into flame wars. Forums like these are rare. Even other parts of this website aren't nearly as helpful or friendly.

Pretty much any google search on a C&V topic shows links to here. If folks interested can't figure out to stop by and check things out, I'm not sure more blatant advertising will work.

Why would I want more competition in the C&V for sale section?
In all seriousness I send friends links to helpful threads (for obscure bikes they owned back in the day) or to deal with specific compatibility/repair issues that have been resolved here. That's all.

I try to mention it to the self-selecting group who join this forum and ask where to look for parts, but outside this forum, I don't know of too many live humans who would be interested in the sales forum and don't already know about it.

If you start pimping me, we are going to loose our love affair! I can always go to the sale sites but often ask full retail for my stash of very hard to find parts there and don't feel the need to give any discounts. Here I find folks who are genuinely cycling enthusiasts and are interested in preserving some of the history of the sport. As an example: I could go to an auction site and sell a SR groupo and let the market decide it's value. Here I can place a value on it to other enthusiasts, who will let me know if my pricing is correct for this group. Just my take on it. Smiles, MH

I regularly link people on R E D D I T to this forum. BikeForums.net doesn't share the same sentiment.

- The Touring subforum is kind of grumpy sometimes but I noticed a lot of grumpy people on a Dutch forum as well. Might be a touring thing. They definitely didn't share my enthusiasm about the Batavus Randonneur GL.
- The Electronics subforum is people asking about 20 different specific heart rate monitors and battery lights.
- Tandem subforum is mostly people asking for help with a specific problem. They didn't even have a single "Show us your xxx"-thread until I started one this week.

Definitely, C&V is a community I haven't seen online since Sheldon and Jobst were active on rec.bike.tech. I'm happy to be a lurker and sometime participant.
The family biking forum is mostly people passing through, at least that's how it felt when I was active there. There's Tandem regulars. The track cycling forum seems to be a community.
