PSA: Wahoo ELEMNT HR zones not auto-calculated according to the ranges on their site
According to Wahoo, these zones are 50-60%, 60-70%, 70-80%, 80-90%, 90-100%. Nothing particularly fancy, just a basic model for HR zones. You could always tailor these (and probably should!), but they'll still give you a useful understanding of your level of exertion. The problem is that, as it is currently coded, the Wahoo ELEMNT companion app (at least on iOS), does not auto-calculate HR zones according to the ranges listed on their site. My (known) max HR is currently 188. As such, my zones (per Wahoo) should be (rounding choices aside):
0-113, 114-132, 133-150, 151-169, 170+
When I enter my maxHR into the companion app and allow it auto-calculate, I get:
0-122, 123-141, 142-159, 160-178, 179+.
Instead of 0-60%, 60-70%, etc, I get 0-65%, 65-75%, 75-85%, 85-95%, 95-100%. This is not particularly disastrous, but if you're planning on comparing the ELEMNT readouts to the aforementioned zone ranges as listed on their site, you are not getting the correct results. This could become an issue if you're trying to, for example, stay in Zone 3 for an endurance ride, but are instead in lower Zone 4 without realizing it.
I know there are lots of other considerations for HR zones (not least of which is whether you're actually using the correct maxHR), but figured this was worth pointing out. I've put a ticket in with Wahoo and will post here if they respond.
