ca 1965 Sauvage Lejeune
It took six weeks to get to me, but I finally got the bike in the subject line from France. It is a bit of a time capsule. The no Record hubs are dated 63(F) and 64(R). It features Record derailleurs and 151 BCD 45/50 crank. It is kind of crusty in places but what little cleaning I have done has been rewarding. The plan is to not refinish, but I will probably touch up as that is what a caring owner would have done. This is clearly a frame from the Carré workshop but it oddly does not have the wooden plug often found in headtube of Carré's and other French bikes. Anyone have a source for more period correct brake cable housing? What I am finding on line is just not going to look right in my eyes. One of the things I really enjoy about the frame is the crude painting of the World Champion stripes on the seat tube. Also note the 531 decals. Not ones you see often. A few before cleaning photos of the frame. More if you click one of them; it will take you to flickr. Will post "clean" photos later.

Beautiful. You are a magnet for these red Carre frames, Lynn.
Look up Nissen housing. Very nice stainless housing from Japan.
Velo Orange now has a coil type housing as well that looks good.

Thanks for posting Lynn.
Very much enjoyed the earlier thread on the machine.
Assumed it to be 1964, partially due to the presence of the Ambrosio Champion stem combined with the Record rear mech.
Only year those two fellas could have been in the same house.
Shall very much look forward to following along as you work with it.
Would expect original cable casing to have been EJAC brand produced by Etablissements Jeunehomme. It exhibits concentric ribs. Red and blue were both offered, amongst the available colour pallette.

No, not black face. It is a stereotype representation of an African native, not some white dude with black make up. Either way no fly today.

No markings. Not a team or custom frame.

Those hand-painted Worlds bands are awesome! Interesting headbadge, too - I'm assuming it's referring to the "Sauvage" part of the bike's name.
I'm sure it will be a thing of beauty once more after you've set your hands to it

Clean frame posted to flickr. Rubbing compound brought out the shine. Touch up is up in the air as I don't want just a close match. May visit the local auto paint store.

Yup. We have been exchanging emails before and after I bought mine. It would be fun, once mine is ready, to get them together. He has had a couple of others, also.

Bob has had, and still has, a lot of others, as I'm sure you're well aware.

Work is progressing. I have cleaned up the derailleur, shifters, and some other bits. Components have been mostly dirty although the front derailleur is showing some wear. The jockey wheels are worn and will likely have to be replaced. I am going to try them, but am prepared to invest in replacements. The half hoods on the Mafac levers are in good shape and will get reused. Looks like getting the cable end out of each lever will be a challenge. Will address tomorrow.

More cleanup. Touch up on the fork continues. I found some Humbrol red that is a really nice match. I looked on the Bay at Ambrosio Champion stems and bars. Glad I am not having to replace what I have.

Looking great. I just got a 60s Nitto stem that looked like a copy of something I had seen before but I couldn't put my finger on it. It looks like a copy of that Ambrosio stem.

ca 1965 Sauvage Lejeune
Hi new to this forum looking for some info re the above frame/bike
i have a Sauvage Lejeune frame as per the pics shown which i bought new in 1965
and built into my then current race bike, and have kept ever since, i have now decided after all these years to renovate back to
the original frame colour, as i made the mistake of having it resprayed and not very well done back
in the late 70's early 80's.
what i can't find is the frame number so i can prove hopefully i have what i say it is, do any of you experts know where it should be??
will probably keep it to 60's spec rather than modifying to fit later spec group set.
thanks for your time and hope you can help with this question.
regards
dave lucas

Hi and welcome. Most Lejeunes built in the time period of interest had no serials on them. If you have some photos of yours, we would love to see them. Just post around to get your 10 needed to share photos.

On one of mine it is under the bottom bracket. In my case three digits, was a 1972 bike.
I have others with no serial number.
