Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cracked carbon or just paint?

Got this brand new. Obviously, the paint job isn’t good. At all.

I still don’t want to send it back unless the carbon is cracked because there are no more and I wanted an f8.

I’d like some of your opinions please . If you zoom on you can see the drips etc. and where they painted the hanger while it was on the bike. Apparently.

I'm guessing it's a fake, as well.
The paint job is horrendous, and nobody paints a frame with the derailleur hanger on it. Definitely send it back, if you can.

I'd remove the hanger. The paint will chip off but it will allow you to see what's underneath. If it looks OK you can touch up the paint after.

I'd return it. Don't accept less than 100% on a new frame.

The low tolerance and quality of some high priced products(cycling and elsewhere) never ceases to amaze me.

I'd be saying fake too, just because the quality is so low and pictures online show a black hanger. In any case it looks like the factory hand was too heavy with the spray putty and that's what's cracked. But who really knows, with that much spray putty anything could be happening there. Either way it's junk and the hanger shouldn't have been on the frame when it's painted.

It appears to be a crappy paint job and like one poster stated.......derailleur hangers are hardly ever painted from what I have seen. Could they be from the factory???? Maybe, but I have not seen it. But that’s not the debate here is it?

I am not familiar with a F8 so I cannot comment on how they build them and paint them. But that certainly looks like a RD hanger that should not be painted. Problem is, if it ever needs to be adjusted and bent, it will crack the clear coat anyway more than likely.

I guess if you want to keep it due to no more available, you are keeping it.

I'm not sure if it's cracked or not. I'm sure the paintjob is a piece of ****. Considering they painted it with the hanger on its place, I think it's probably a crappy paintjob and the carbon is ok.

Looks like this dogma’s hanger is painted too? Maybe it’s just something Pinarello is doing?

I think I’d keep it if I knew it wasn’t a crack and they gave me a heavy discount. Maybe?

There is not anymore of them and I don’t love the f10’s

Maybe and I would understand if you went that route - it would be tempting. Personally, I would just be turned off by that sloppy work. It would grate at me and I'd wonder what else was done sub-par.

I wouldn't even be asking this question. I would have been asking for a return address label from them the second I opened the box. That's unacceptable no matter what the price.

Just a guess, but I wonder because this was a special edition that went to dealers only (I read only 100 were painted this way) that they had some lax QC.

I don’t know. The rest of the frame and fork look flawless.

Don't understand the Pinarello thing. Premium price for a mass-produced poorly made Asian made frame regularly discounted and is also faked regularly.

The location of manufacturer isn't relevant, especially since all frames come from the same place

True. But my tcr advanced sl is a great bike. I don’t like it anywhere near as much as my Protos or how I imagine how I feel about the Dogma.

It’s just irrational preference, I guess. Italians know how to make beautiful things.

Funny enough, I was working on one of my kids' mtbs last night and realized her rd hanger is painted. I built the bike from the frame up and hadn't noticed...poor attention to detail on my part!
