Oddly enough in Ottawa yesterday it came through (saturday 10th) but still today in Montreal the 11th it is still out...

is that resetting dns thing worth figuring out how to do (doesnt mean a thing to me)?

Ps, when I say "out" I mean it still goes to the page explaining why the site is down.

Well, I've been intrigued by the problem and have tried a number of things - none have worked.
To see the propagation around the world go to https://www.viewdns.info/propagation/ and put in "crazyguyonabike.com". Looked like it has reached everywhere but Japan when I checked. An interesting web site to know about, in any event.

Then I thought maybe I had the wrong info stored on my computer somehow. Deleted all browsing histories, etc. No luck. Found the command " ipconfig/flushdns" which should flush out any dns info stored on the computer. No luck.

I also changed to google DNS settings Neil suggested. No luck.

Any other ideas?? (And for the "geographic theorists", I'm in California - the info should have slid down the map from Oregon really quickly!) Guess I just need to be patient.

That means you are getting the temporary "website down for maintenance" page which I put up during the move. I couldn't get the ssl certificate to work correctly with the temp server, still not sure why, but that's the reason for the warning you see - your browser thinks the certificate doesn't match the website you're trying to load. I'm really sorry you're still having problems accessing the site. Unfortunately there's not much I can do about it, since these DNS servers are caching the old address and there's no way for me to tell them "Hey here's the new address" - it only happens when they ask for it, I can't actively push it out to them. All I can say for certain is that this WILL eventually resolve itself, the DNS servers will get the new address and then you'll be able to see the site again. But how long it will take any particular DNS server to refresh its cache is anybody's guess.

In the meantime, if you want to get proactive about it, then the workaround is to change your computer's internet settings to use different DNS servers, e.g. Google runs some at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 which seem good, they are the ones I use and the address for the server updated quite quickly there (I think it was 12 hours). The procedure for changing DNS servers depends on your platform, but a bit of judicious googling should lead you to tutorials that can take you through it step by step - e.g. search for something like "how to change dns server" and google suggests a bunch of platforms in the dropdown menu. Add your platform to the end of the search, e.g. "how to change dns server windows 7" and you'll find very specific instructions on how to do that.

Learning how to change dns servers is a useful computer skill to have, since sometimes an ISP's default dns can be rather slow - and slow lookups can make your entire internet experience seem sluggish. Also, if your default DNS server has some issue or is otherwise unavailable, it can be useful to know how to switch to a different one. OpenDNS is another good option (just google it).

Wow.
After the site was back up a day or two ago I was able to access it without problems a few times, then it started redirecting to https://5.9.19.51/ again, so I kind of gave up. Then today it was still not working, so I checked here on bikeforums to see if there were any news, saw all the talk about changing DNS settings, googled that, didn't feel confident enough to undertake anything (I suspect it might cause me additional problems as I'm using a USB internet dongle thing from a German company with an Italian SIM card, sometimes on a eeePC with Ubuntu, sometimes on another eeePC with Windows 7), and then (this is the really strange thing) I go off that help page and try again, and it worked! Unfortunately, after just a couple of pages of successful viewing within CGOAB, it started showing the 5.9.19.51 page again! Weird! Wouldn't you say? Help!

Neil, maybe you can put a redirect order (or whatever) to have https://5.9.19.51/ point to crazyguyonabike.com? I suspect my ignorance and the resulting suggestion is probably making more than one out there laugh. So be it. Anyway, I hope the kobolds of the internet decide to do their thing for me soon! That is, either getting out of the way or coming to fix whatever it is that's hindering things.

I have also found that the CGOAB is alternating between working and not regardless of which device. Hopefully it will stabilise soon.

FWIW, it was working yesterday but, this morning, no access from here in New York.

I get "Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED): The server refused the connection."

And https://5.9.19.51/ gives me the "down for maintenance page".

I'm still connecting to the old address for https://www.crazyguyonabike.com of 208.64.24.170 (the old server address)


I know the new address is 69.59.196.178 so as a web developer I was able to instruct my computer to use the new address when I type https://www.crazyguyonabike.com it now goes to the website.


If you still cannot see the site (you have not received the new updated address yet) and you want to do it yourself go to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and copy a file called hosts to your desktop.
Also copy it somewhere else as a backup.


You'll see something like this

Save the file on your desktop as "hosts" (this ensures no .txt extension) from notepad, then copy the hosts file back to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and should work then.

Also note this change is permament so if the site changes location again you will need to update your hosts file accordingly.
