Seat Post Size

Restoring an early 80’s Raleigh mixte. Pulled the seat post. It only has Max/minimum insertion labeled on it, no size. My calipers measure it at 25.77. What size is this supposed to be? 25.4? 26.2? Or, did they use a funky size no longer commonly found?

I have encountered 25.8mm seatposts in Raleigh/Carlton bikes.

Measuring is better than guessing. Most better bicycle shops will have a set of seatpost-sizing rods to gauge the right size. Google search 25.8mm seatpost and there are a fair few options available.

I had measured, just hadn’t run into anything with 25.8 size before. Sounds like that’s what I need to hunt for.

Forgot to mention earlier that the 25.8mm seatpost size is fairly common in low-mid range mountain bikes.

Measuring is good, see if you can find an old catalog to confirm.

See St Sheldon the Brown data base on seat post size always a good place to start and yes 25.8 was a thing. I just ordered a Ice Toolz seat post gauge as I find calipers and seat post sizing to be kinda meh. Are you gonna post a pic of the bike in question....?

What's wrong with it? Just need a longer/nicer one?
