back tire
i've had this back tire in about 3 weeks, and its this worn. time for a new one yet? the pictures are of the most worn of the 4 skid patches.

I meant that the pictures are of the one skid spot that is the worst. There is just 3 pictures so you can see the wear better...

It is my recommendation that you modify your gear ratio such that you will have more than 4 skid patches on the rear tire, thus spreading wear more evenly and increasing the usable life of the tire.
This is most easily accomplished by changing the size of the rear cog; prime numbers are good, with a 17 tooth rear cog being a common choice as it provides 17 skid patches for most common chainwheel sizes.

IF you really want to know take the tire off the rim and feel how thick it is. They usually last longer than you'd think unless your some type of skid fiend.

loosen track nuts, hop chain a couple teeth and re-tighten, do this periodically and you instantly doubled to quadruplified the life of your tire.

whether the tire is rideable depends on what kind of casing it has and how puncture resistant it is. My Maxxis refuse get worn to hell and back and I've NEVER gotten a puncture flat on them.
