no witnesses, no police report, just a license plate...
either you sit back after something happens (or lay back, unfortunately) and gather witnesses, or you go after the guy to administer road justice/or just get a license plate
so....I got hit....this mamaguevo (shiid, that's what he called me) intentionally hit me (squeezed me in between him and another car) because I was asserting my personal space and tapped on his car (as he unecessarily tried to hurry around (more like, through) me.
fortunately I was ok, so I ran him down. He was pretty threatening with his car (I could have tangled with him or smashed some of his glass up, but I thought it better for the safety of my bicycle, to steer clear of this crazy mf), so I just abandoned chase to concentrate on remembering his license plate number.
I really don't want to go through the trouble of filing a police report. mostly, I don't want to deal with those guys (cause in my experience, they don't want to deal with me). Maybe I'll file a complaint with the T&L Commission (although without a police report, it's likely NOTHING will happen to this guy)
bottom line...protect yourself. 's a war out there. Yea, I'll say it. these fuks think that because they have a shiny, boxy vehicle that they can get away with murder
this guy better steer clear of my hood for as long as I can remember these digits

Nothing's probably going to happen anyways, so you might as well file a police report.

So, let me get this right, someone hit you intentionally, you got the plate number and you didn't even bother to call it in?
Good thing to know that people like you are allowing violent drivers to continue doing what they do without repercussions.

I dont understand why we should convince you. If you call it in you can potentially press charges, if you wish. This person could potentially lose their license. If you do nothing, nothing will happen. It is really that simple. Most police stations will even have an officer come to you and take down the information. Was there any damage at all? any marks left on the car?

You'll file but nothing will happen.
Even if some kind of investigation took place, who's to say you're not some nutjob pinning false reports and filing frivolous lawsuits?
Should have just beat his ass instead.

Remember those 2 roadies that nearly got killed this past summer when the rich snob doctor slammed on his brakes and they crashed into the rear of his car? It would have been considered an accident had another rider not made a report about a similar incident previous to him putting one guy in the hospital as he flew through his rear window. With the previous report the police could now show a pattern of violence towards cyclists. they might not do something about your issue right now, but reporting this can help later on if this guy were to attempt it again on someone else.

If you were one of my friends, I'd slap you upside the head and call you an idiot until you filed a report.

That mf can take it out on an another cyclist... and another.. and another, and go become a mass bike murderer.
Unless you file the report.

File a report! Why? because you might be the 2nd 3rd or even the 4th person this a-hole has done this too and regardless of your opinion about police when it becomes an orbital offence the police will be more and willing to go after him when they know the charges will stick once it goes to the DA office.

so wait are you asking whether you should file a police report and let them deal with it, or somehow found out his address through his license plate number and deliver justice yourself?

Why is this even a question? Report it, follow up with it, make sure this guy receives a visit from the police at the very least. Find a lawyer who will take up your case pro-bono (up here atleast, lawyers are itching to sink their teeth in to car vs cyclist cases), press charges for assault, attempted murder, hate crimes, anything you can justify. I recently reported someone for nearly hitting me, and he has since suffered a 90 day license suspension, a permanent incident report in his file, and he has to complete a safe driving course. Your actions in not reporting this are just as bad, if not worse, than the guy who hit you. You are reinforcing the belief that cyclists are legal pushovers, and by letting this guy get away with it, you are vindicating his position.
