what would you spend $120 on?

I am trying to decide what my next purchase should be. I have a 09 Novara Safari with new tires, fenders, new Sram trigger shifters, a bike computer, Ortlieb panniers, power grips for the pedals, and plenty of tail lights. I use this bike as my transportation and I am having a hard time deciding what should be next. I have about $120 to blow on bike goodies and I was thinking about getting either a Brooks Flyer Saddle or a Magicshine Headlight. I will get both eventually, but it may be a month or so before the next purchase.

Which would you chose, or would you go a different direction?

Save it.

But if you HAVE to spend it, I'd go for the saddle now. The sooner you get it, the sooner you can break it in.

Since you mentioned panniers I'm assuming you have a rack already.

I'd go for the brooks, just not the flyer. At least if your handlebars are any lower than your saddle. I had one on my T700 which has about an inch from bars to saddle. It was horrible. I'm much happier with my Imperial now.

I wouldn't spend anything unless you don't currently have a decent lamp, or you find something else on your list on sale for at least 33% off.

Had an Ideale (Brooks-like saddle) back in the day. Looked great and felt great, but I didn't find it to be 10x better than saddles that cost 1/10 the price.

If you don't need the lamp, no reason to buy it. If you do need the lamp, it's obviously the first choice.

I figured that if he was thinking about getting a Magicshine that there probably is/was some sort of need, especially where the OP mentioned "having plenty of tail lights."

If I had $120, I would have bought that cool looking 56cm Peugeot frame I saw on Craigslist last week and a a few of the parts I'd need for a SS conversion on it...

Or I'd try to set it aside in savings for a better new bike down the line.

Seeing as it's your $$$, not mine, and you've got a decent bike already, I'd probably go for the light if I were you.

If you are asking about buying one of the two, I would go with a saddle being that you will most likely be riding while it is light out. Brooks saddles are great but not for everyone.

Since it is still high summer, I'd say the saddle, unless you have a need for the light during these longer days (i.e. super early or late commute).
Edit - it is worthwhile to get a cheap but bright ($15-20) front blinkie for daytime visibility. I run a PB Beamer 3 as my full-time blinkie, and my magicshine for illumination or as my primary daytime blinkie (with the PB as secondary).

Merino base layers. They're 1/2 the winter price right now, and they're very comfortable all year.

Thanks for all the input, lets see if I can cover some of the comments. Yes, I do have panneir racks, tail lights, speedplay pedals, the bike fits great, I do have another bike just for group rides (09 TCR with Easton Wheels), I do have TWO Blackburn Flea Headlight blinkers to BE seen, and new bar tape. I use this for commuting and right now it is bright enough that I don'tneed a headlight, but if I had to work late one night I would be "up the creek". However, the WTB Saddle that came on this bike is pure junk and while it is okay for the 18 miles daily, it is not at all comfortable for my weekend rides of 50-70 miles. .

So far it seems most people say go with the saddle, but not the Flyer. The B17, right?

A middle chainring, bottom bracket, chainring bolts for my aging touring bike and maybe new chains for all my bikes.

I have a flyer, and I like that it smooths out the bumps. Mine was comfy right away, but it is the regular one, not the special edition. I hear those take longer to break in. You may be able to get one for less than 120-- check out UK websites such as chain reaction (https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/M...?ModelID=11670). My saddle upgrade was one of the best commuting decisions I ever made. The flyer is pretty heavy, but I think it is worth it.

Since it is summer, I find lights to be of secondary importance.

Oh, and do you have fenders? You should run some for comfort and brooks saddle protection from wet from below.

If the existing seat is uncomfortable, that's a good priority.

You can get by with a cheap low power LED front lamp for emergency use until the days get short.

With only a $120 budget you'll have to skimp on the quality of either the hookers or the beer. But I guess that dilemma can be rectified by the volume of good beer you drink.
