Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

At the local circuit there is a guy who has a brand new Toyota Vensa and he always takes the bike out of the car with ease. If your bike is not too big and you lower one side of the rear seats you can fit two bikes side by side standing up.

Other than that the Honda Element is another that can fit bikes with ease but I think it's a super ugly car.

Back to the OP...I used to carry my bikes in a Cargo Van (work).
Thought about rigging something in it (like two hooks in the ceiling)
to "hang" it from the roof and to somehow keep it from swinging.

As for vehicles, I know so many MTBers who use Subaru wagons.
Can't see why a RB would be any different.

This is one of the considerations in my next vehichle...which will carry my bike best when needed?

My 56cm Roubaix fits in the back of my 2001 Subaru Outback with the rear seats down . . . no need to remove the bike's front wheel.

Surprisingly, I can comfortably fit my 56cm Calfee in the back of my Prius if I fold the seats down.

A lot of people in my bike club use their Prius for hauling bikes. I have a 60cm Calfee, do you think it would fit in a Prius? A Prius could be my next car.

Probably. My 56 fits easily (with rear seats down) with some room to spare.
I traded in an Audi (great car, but costly to maintain after 5-6 years), for a Prius, this past January. So far, very happy.

Is that with the bike sitting up or laid down?

Thanks, I have test driven a Prius and it seemed fine to me. I was told that the car isn't great in the torque department. Do you notice any problems when climbing hills with your Prius?

There are not many hills where I live (Wisconsin). I have not noticed any problems with power. You can switch from hybrid mode to "power mode" by pushing a button, if you need more power (I haven't so far). BTW I'm getting 47 mpg.

My bike fits fine in my 1994 Toyota Camry wagon, the 2010 Subaru Outback has slightly more room, so I'd say it would go there easy as well.

Is it the new generation of Prius, the 2010 which I think has a little more room than the older model?

My 54cm Fuji fits easily lying on its side in the back of my Mazda 3 hatchback with the rear seats folded down. I would think most hatchbacks would work as well for a single bike.

The Venza and new Outback might as well be vans. Subaru really failed with that thing.

Give me a 2007 Outback with the bike on top, not inside.

I can fit my 50cm Felt fine in my Audi A4 (sedan), so I imagine it would fit better in the wagon.

+1 - I don't have to work hard to get either of my bikes in the Prius. Lot of room when the seats are folded down.
