What did you give up for your bikes?

Another thread is about what people spend money on instead of cycling.

So what are you doing to save money so you can spend more on cycling?

I gave up a car, commute by bike/train to work and always bring my lunch so I can spend more on my bikes.

ps I know a few of you gave up your SO for cycling.

I gave up making frivolous trips by car, as well as postponing indefinitely on replacing my older paid for vehicle with newer one.

My car. Had a Honda Civic as my commuter car, but sold that prior to buying my bike. Put most of the money in the bank from the sale and put about $1,000 into buying the new ride. I still don't feel like I've given up that much. I gave up the comfort of a car for the bike, but I am 10 pounds lighter after 3 months of riding (with no other changes). I gave up the security of a car (probably and illusion anyway), but have quicker reflexes and am more aware on the road. I'm actually a better driver now, when I do drive.

At worst, the gain/loss of cycling vs. driving is a wash. At best, I'm way ahead in terms of my health, my pocketbook, and just the plain enjoyment of life.

I sure didn't give up any body weight by riding a bike, more like I put on 10 to 15 lbs.

100lbs and lots of TV time. I also sold my motorcycles and gave up the monthly payments and insurance payments on them.

Not really for financial reasons, but I did get rid of my car. I figure that between registration and insurance I was paying close to $1500 per year for a car that I rarely used. I now don't worry about what I spend on my stable of bikes.

So many great answers in this thread. I don't feel like I gave--I lost 115 pounds. Plus, I save enough in gas and blood pressure meds to pay for riding(so far, though I do lust for a Hetchins).

Traded in the idea of replacing the last car, an hour every evening with the kids (who watch TV anyway), and the accelerating freight train of decrepitude. Had 7 weeks of next-to-nothing last winter not happened (allowing my 'real age' to catch up to the chronological), I'd still be mistaken for a decade younger.
