Bike-pedestrian path Gordie Howe Bridge
DETROIT, MI — The new Gordie Howe International Bridge will include a pedestrian link between Michigan and Canada under terms of a new agreement.
On Sept., 9, officials in Michigan and Canada signed a memorandum of understanding to connect trails on either side of the border the new bridge over the Detroit River, which is scheduled to open by the end of 2024.
The goal is to link the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail in Ontario to the Iron Belle Trail in Michigan, as well as connect to a proposed land and water trail network under development in southeast Michigan between Lake Erie, Lake St. Clair and Lake Huron called the Great Lakes Way.
The agreement was signed in Windsor last week by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, Trans Canada Trail and the Waterfront Regeneration Trust (WRT) in Ontario.
Officials say the goal is to enhance tourism.

This is terrific. And I got to watch him play at Olympia. The bridge should be lined with octopi (rubber) during the opening ceremonies.

I don't see safe public parking for tourists that would like to park & ride. Most of the northeast areas are very strict on time & being a resident.
Are supermarkets [Walmart, Kroger, Meijer etc] going to authorized public parking?

The stretch of Jefferson starting around Grosse Pointe & traveling along the Saint Claire Shores doesn't have a safe, open to the public, public parking. There's not even a permissible [pay for permit] means to do so. As the route goes northeast, there are DNR boat launches, but they are either restricted to set hours [usually 08:00 to 20:00] or/& closed for "construction" that has been lingering on for a long while [year+] . Most are not patrolled frequently by LEO's, which puts any person's vehicle open to theft & vandalism.
I've found that the nearest lot to park at [carpool sites] , often puts you in a high vehicle density area, & high risk for being hit when trying to ride to the areas on that map for riding.

that is one of many crossings, but I'm generally highlighting a broad stretch of the riding area that's considered an SE metro Mi area.

Within a few weeks of opening the new I74 bridge over the Mississippi river in the Quad Cities, a drunk driver drove across the bridge in the bike lane. Struck 3 pedestrians, 2 died. They then placed a bunch of concrete barriers at the Iowa side where the women driver entered. A single planter was set in the middle of the bike lane on the Illinois side where cars are much less likely to enter due to the direction of traffic flow.
Still no notice of lawsuits. You have the feds, 2 states and 2 cities involved in the planning and construction and yet this was an obvious error in design that was overlooked by everyone.
If anyone attends any meetings, that's a safety point to be reviewed.
