you need to look closer. All metallic. The later nylon compression pieces matched to the chromed conical outer presser washer, slightly longer screws and one to two lock washers, Campagnolo packaged one per side to begin with and two later. Note the backing plates with the cable guides. The later simplified lever design paired with the aluminum base washer as you installed.
make sure you have all the parts in the correct orientation, and some lube is helpful
and don't forget your ref 661 spacers for brazed on bosses as your bike has

Ok
601 trick or treaters!
This is the house next-door. How do you compete with this?
I had 1000 pieces of candy. Homemade or really creative outfits get 2 or more pieces.
then I swapped out the shift lever parts.
the friction and feel was soooo much better with the nylon bits. And while I rarely question Repechage’s word, none of my other bikes have the cable eyelet on the lever stop. So I didn’t do that.
Heard a rumor of a set of DeRosa campy brake levers in a local shop’s glass case. However, said shop is known to either quote eBay for their prices (asking, not sold) or simply not sell because it’s a part of their “museum.”
I get it. It’s cool to be able to go and ogle the cool stuff. It’s rent time, so maybe a deal can be made.
lastly, I see in Andrea’s DeRosa guide the panto campy brake levers didn’t come out until 1975. But c’mon on. It would be pretty cool to have those on there. Right?
poll: Nisi or Martanos???

Talbot’s in Palo Alto had full panto DeRosa’s for $850. in late 1974. Including levers. A club member bought two, the first one crashed in the first week. Car made a left hand turn in front of him.

Went to test the seat post. Didn’t fit.
not because someone used the wrong size and squeezed the flaps, well that happens too, but using the nitto tool, I spread them back to normal.
no, there was some metal inside that somehow wasn’t filed away back in the day, forcing the PO to use a smaller post.
round filed the excess and the post slides right in, pre lube!!
now to paint the flutes and panto.
I’m horrible at staying inside the lines. Luckily while still wet, it wipes right off with a lil paint thinner on a paper towel.
Not bad. Next the lettering.

Not my intention
both of these rims came off of 1971 or 72 bikes.
The seat post is the correct era
cranks, both FD and RD. I’m using cloth tape and an old Cinelli saddle.
the only part not 1974 or older is the XA stem from 1975.
Glasnos!!

So, the yellow needed some touch up where it was too thin.
out came some paper, paint and brush. Luckily I was joined by a friend. Madge.
I became worried about what to use for the detailed lettering (DeRosa) when I remembered that badger fur makes the best brushes.
Perhaps I shouldn’t have spoken out loud.
Come back. You too Greta. I said nothing about Weimaraner fur.
Anyway. A single whisker makes a fine “detail” brush.
Not a bad job. I feel a proper drink was in order. The Clover Club. Named after a Philly club, pre-prohibition.
2 oz gin
3/4 oz lemon juice
1/2 oz combiner fruit rouges
1/2 oz simple syrup
1 egg white.

Wonderful thing about post CPSC pad holders, the safety plastic chips right off, revealing pre-CPSC pad holders.

Saddle time: I had this 1974 come in on a crashed crappy BMX bike. Surely borrowed off his dad’s bike without permission. (I know nothing about borrowing parts from Dad’s bike back in the day)
think it will do just fine.
All that’s needed now:
proper brake lever hoods (at this point, not picky) and some sew ups. I depleted this town prior to Cino.

you will know after the plastic is removed. Do not expect all parts to be all blank or all stamped.

If you strip off the plastic and they don't match each other or are blank altogether, you will be chastised by some no matter what.

Rims: I was torn between some crusty Nisi + campy low flange, or Martano with Weyless hubs.
I have 2 sets of NOS large flange hubs I was thinking of swapping the Weyless out for.
But, that sounds like more work than cleaning up the Nisi.
So, I grabbed a paint stripper tool and the cordless drill. I didn’t want mastic dust anywhere in the house, and it has been a weird dreary day here in Portland, but in the mid-high 60s, so out on the front porch I went.
Lots of neighbors out for a stroll. Lots of “hey Rob, what the hell you doing?” Usually followed by “what’s in the keg-o-rader today”?
Luckily most are frightened of Madge and I get left alone enough to do my thing.
This is era correct. It came off my Dad’s 72 Colnago that I sold because I’ll never be a size 58.
How many layers of glue is this?
The stripper worked great. Dad was sloppy with the glue, and the Nisi has those lil’ divots, but I was able to get out what I wanted.
All clean

Mail came.
I ordered this so long ago, I completely forgot about it. A panto’d silca frame pump in gold, with Derosa embossed on the side.
while it has more patina than my frame, I think it looks awesome.
Subtle. Nice, right?

Yes! At first I thought, “That guy has a stuffed badger posed in his pics. Weird.” Then I thought, “Wow he has TWO stuffed badgers! Bizarre!” Now I just want to learn more about Madge and how she gets along with the dog!
Oh, and to watch the build finish.

Masi jumped onto the branded Silca pumps first, very soon all the name makers jumped in. Quite a bit of effort, many were painted to match, so size and color co-ordination required. Some used the raw plastic colors. This type of effort would just not happen today. The frame fit pumps later just made it more complicated.

I do wish it said DeRosa vertically instead of horizontal. Like the seatpost.

A break was needed. Something about concerts, cleaning up the house and prepping for a dinner party.
Boil then ice bath before cleaning
Scallop crudo on shell this side
Crabs on the other
96 doms, rose and reg Krug and Cristal
Yes. Actual size.
then cleaning up the house post dinner party.
Shocked there was any left!!
finally the next day…
Me: ”hey sweetie, where are the keys, I need to run to a drug store”
Her:”What! It’s 11pm. None are open. Is it an emergency? What do you need?”
Me: “um, a toothbrush.”
Her: “what? Your dad was a dentist, aren’t there cases of toothbrushes in the basement?”
Me: I thought that too when I grabbed my toothbrush by the sink, Apparently I went through them all.”
“Up and down like the rain ‘Round n round like a choo-choo train. This is how we brush our hubs.”
After a good cleaning, starting with simple green, followed by crest plain toothpaste for a polish (use what ya got) I tried them on the bike.

I'm sure you eagle eyed vintage guys know what happened next.
Thought I'd see how they look on the frame. That's when I found out this was for a 126, not a 120. Boo.
Well, I've never gone to bed without brushing my teeth, a full tear down was called for.
These hubs had 78 stamped on them. That won't do. I grabbed my large flange set. 1974. That will do. Swapped axels and all parts which was a good thing because of the pitting I found.
Used the last of my campy grease. Wish the container was made of sturdier stuff so I could wash and re-use it to store duck-fat next to the cooktop.
Hey, just remembered I have a spare toothbrush in the glovebox. Crisis averted.
