Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

WTB All Terrain vs Specialized Crossroads

As you can see, I don't have a gravel bike but primarily ride on gravel/hardpack, and the street getting there. So, I thought this forum would be the best place to ask about tires.

In the photo above I've got Panaracer Ridge Line 26x1.5. I swapped them out for two reasons: wanted to try a wider tire, was worried a bit about the sidewalls. But I like the tread pattern.

These are my current tires, Continental Travel Contact, 26x1.75". They feel a little slippery when I corner so I'm considering a change. I'm not sure they were ever meant to be off-road, but I had them laying around so tried them out.

So, questions:
1) what do you think about the Panaracer sidewalls, unsafe?
2) any opinions about the WTB All Terrains, or Specialized Crossroads, both in 26x1.9". I'm leaning toward the WTB because I like the tread pattern so much. I've got a pair in 700x32 in the garage (from flipping bikes) but have never mounted or rode them.

Of those two, I'd go with the WTB. I tend to avoid flat protection belts...poor ride quality, and I seldom flat. What I'm currently running on a 26er that sees occasional gravel and commuting is the Maxxis Tread Lite tire in 26x2.1. I run it with tubes, but run the pressure pretty low (in the 24 pound range), which helps with grip in loose conditions. Your Panaracer's sidewalls look fine to me, I'd probably keep running those, and just lower the pressure some.
