New taller 1" quill stems

I have a '75 Raleigh International and would like to replace the existing 110mm GB stem with an 80mm reach stem that can extend 80-90mm out of the headset, measured from the headset to the stem bolt and 25.4 as I'm pretty sure the stock bars are that.

Looks like I have a couple options for new stems.

Kalloy/origin8 basic stem. Pros would be price. Cons would be that I have one and the finish is only so so...it's really not anything to write home about.

Nitto Young 3. Seems to fit the bill, not sure about finish. Never had one. https://https ://www.universalcycles....9377&category=

Nitto technomic. I have one and the finish is pretty nice polish. Cons would be the extra length adds a bit of weight if I'm not using it and the 26.0 clamp size. I'm 90% sure the bars I have from the Raleigh are 25.4. $40 USD is more than it used to be for us Canucks. Nitto Technomic Road 1" Quill Stem: 80mm, -18 Degree 225mm Quill, 26.0mm Bar Cla | eBay

Do you know any other options for a slightly taller stem? Most of the used vintage ones are either beat or too short.

Soma Sutro

The Nitto Technomic Deluxe is another option that's not as tall as the regular Technomic ...but it's roughly twice the cost of the Soma Sutro.

Rivendell offers the Nitto Tallux, as well as their Dirt Drop stem (if you don't mind its aesthetics).

I have a Nitto Tallux that I got from Riv for my Clem Smith. It is forged, very graceful, and finish is at least as nice as Cinelli. It is taller than a vintage stem but not silly tall. Looks vintage. Price is more than other options it's true. You won't remember the extra bucks a year from now, while any iffy finish might bother you forever.

The Nitto Technomic Deluxe has a nicer finish than the Technomic and it's cold forged. The Soma Sutro is also cold forged. I guess that the much lower price is just because it's not a Nitto.

+1 for the Soma Sutro. I've got this stem on two of my bikes and another on the shelf waiting for my next build to be finished. The ugly Sutro logo is nearly invisible on the silver version of the stem and could probably be removed with very little effort. Otherwise, the finish is great. Here's a pic of my A-D with an 80mm Sutro.

And here's a pic of the Sutro on my Montello, giving you a different angle.

Universal Cycles has the 25.4/80mm version available right now for $36 -- https://www.universalcycles.com/shop...&category=3569

The problem I've had with the Technomic is that on smaller frames it's often too tall. If you only want 80-90mm of extension, you're going to need to get around 135mm of quill into your head tube with a Technomic. I had to cut the quill on one bike to get it to fit.
