Yes, I have the same setup, with cycle analyst as well, have had the battery powering 408 motor for five months now, and just recently the voltage has been dipping far too early, way before I reach 12ah. In fact, the cycle analyst would cut off my battery at around 4 ah when my voltage dips below 42 volts. I contacted ebike.ca and like mentioned here, they will replace the BMS free of charge and they stated that the most likely cause is the old BMS not balancing the cells adequately.

They also offered to send the BMS replacement kit with instructions (https://ebikes.ca/BMS_Replacement.pdf) free of charge.

I like it.. i like it a lot!!!

I finally decided to write to FireFly Energy about the possibility of releasing a lead acid battery with their newer technology for bicycle use. Daniel Stewart of FireFly Energy responds:

"Thank you very much for your interest in Firefly Energy. I have to tell you though, that our technology is optimized for batteries with 25 Ah and higher capacity. Our first product, to be launched early next year, is a 100 Ah battery.

All this is to say that it's unlikely that we will produce a battery that will be applicable to electric bicycles in the foreseeable future.

Thanks again for your interest."


Time will tell, but Dan says bicycle users shouldn't hold their breath waiting for this newer technology from FireFly.

Battery Technology

Hi there,

seems here are some battery experts.

can anyone explain me how Lithium batteries for ebikes are composed? What kind of parts are in these batteries?..... Or where can I get such detailed infos?
A picture or a drawing would be very helpful, too.

The only proven reputable suppliers are from china ?

You suffer from 'cheap is always better syndrome'.
To instruct others to follow your ill advised "advice" without looking for sources here in USA
first is irresponsible.
There are other factors to consider besides price.

Remember everybody,those " reliable" sources mentioned are just someones opinion, shared also by a few of the other uninformed on that forum that like to tinker and save a penny. My opinion is those three are NOT reliable.
Maybe ok for low power applications. I have all my cells lab tested before using them.
Lithium can be found here in USA if you look for it.

Do not trust falconev's opinion on where not to buy batteries because falconev is a battery vendor!


He sells batteries in the United States that he imports from China!.

Another eBay source is "volgood". They still have 100% positive feedback and I'll be adding another. I bought two 36v 20ah lifepo4 batteries with DHL shipping for $848.00. So far no complaints. DHL was great, three days from Hong Kong to Ohio with no customs hassle.

I should mention that the operating voltage is just over 40v for a 36v pack. I had planned to use two packs in my Bricycle but my Crlyte controller is not happy on 80plus volts. I've been running a single 36v pack at 35a without any problems.

What is recommended for a trunk bag for a battery?

I got a 36V 18AH NiMH battery and a water resistant trunk bag. This morning was my first trip to work after putting it together this weekend and I think it over heated. I had the controller in the bag as well and it was almost too hot to touch and the battery has little holes in the heat shrink where I think most of the tops and bottoms of the cells are.

Is that normal or did it overheat?

What batteries should I go for as my first one? I don't want some dewalt that I need to fix stuff with. Just some clean and easy ones.
36V, 10AH I guess, shipping to EU/Sweden.

Hi, I am new here. Have decided to make an electric bike with a cyclone chain drive 500W 24V. I was just wondering why I can't use large motorcycle Gel batteries or even two car batteries mounted in a trailer, I realise they will not be as efficient but I only have to go 5 miles to work and they can charge all day there? This seems a sensible alternative as the price of batteries is shocking (more than the motor kit cost me). Thanks in advance Clive.

I do a daily commute of 7 miles with 3 B&B 12V 8AH batteries and an Amped Bikes 500 Watt hub,
Cheap and effective. I charge at work.

I was thinking the same thing about either using a small car battery that you can buy at Costco or
Walmart or a motorcycle gel cell.

Someone said that these batteries need to be at or near 100% all the time.

These batteries are cheap so I am actually of thinking of trying them on my eZip: 24volts.
I would tie the batteries in series. Probably a $100 experiment.

Hello sorry if im posting this in the wrong area,
but im like really new to the E-bike thing....
Why dont people just use a Dual 12V car battery,
that will give the low 24V, but at a very high amp, (ponders) because i keep seeing people
going to the big 2KW, Goals from some other fourms,
, the batterys I see are so low amps, 10a and 12a,
I mean 10a * 36v = 360watts,
or you can have a Dual 12v (car batt)but amps closer to like 500amps and UP
24V but at 600a = 14,400 watt's or 14.40kW
Is it because the motor control unit(mcu) cant handel that high of amp's?
or... IDK, is there a simple answer,

sorry, I cant really find much information on it but I just did, with a friend.

I found a 72V @ 40amps = 2880 watts,. so I guess I got a good goal, to start Rocking a battery set up for this...

I got 2-Currier's (450) watts in the mail, and will be using that as a beta , bike, and one to keep stock, (for mom of course) and the mod one im doing will be to really set up my old Dual sport motorcycle as a electric bike, Since its motor really only put out 14 HP at max rpm,
and that was really just a spike, it never really had any low end, and the frame is really low weight,
and I kinda started some wiring, for the batters.

It doesn't really work that way. Sure a car battery can put out 500-600 amps. Usually a car battery manufacturer provides a cold cranking amps (CCA) rating of around 500-600 amps, which is a rating given to batteries to determine if they can do what it takes to turn a car starter motor in the dead of winter for a few seconds. And a few seconds is all you will get at that kind of current draw. Ever witness a car that won't start? After about 30 seconds or so the battery is already dead.

Unfortunately car batteries and all other lead acid batteries are subject to Peukert's effect. The gist of Peukert's effect is that the more current you try to pull from a car battery, the less capacity it will give you.

At the bottom of the page the specs are listed.
That particular battery is rated to provide 190 amp hours, but only if you discharge the battery slowly over a 20 hour period. Try and do it in 5 hours and you only get 155 amp hours out of it. That's Peukert's effect. Now imagine how much less capacity you'd get shortening the discharge rate to 15 minutes.

There's much more to it than just that. Generally speaking the higher the voltage, the higher the top speed of the motor. It has to do with counter-electromotive force limiting the top speed of the motor.

This is my first bike..
Currie Trailz Electric Bike.
I got one on the way, should be here on Tue, or wed, Its now Friday night, and I got it comming to my work, and I some how ordered a second one., Kinda a good thing, because 1 to mod and 1 to keep stock.

I was told from a few people that the 450watt stock motor can take a battery pushing, 36 volt, @ 20 amps,

o wow, is there any brand on the motors thats known like the LiFePO4 batterys, to be GooD..
I know a few people were telling me about Scott motors, but at my work there known as to be....
*$hit* and we use Alot of motors in a bowling ally,

this page kinda is what i have found.. so far..

I got a 7 speed free wheel, which i read is a Good thing, to have the free wheel,

I see this Brand motor in alot of Video's
and my bike will be 24V so is that a good thing, OMG i just saw its only 109
watts... Thats a epic fail on myself...
