Met a guy at the gym....

.....he asked me how old I was. I told him 73 and he said he is 93. We started talking about exercise and how we stay active. I told him that I cycle in the warm weather. He told me he has a bike that he never rides and wants to give away. Said it's like new and lives in his basement. Told me it has "those skinny tires." He bought it 45 years ago. Says he will give it to me. Can't wait to see what it is.

awww, you should give him something in return. maybe slip him $50 & tell him you insist?

oh & don't make him deliver it, tell him you'll got get it when it's convenient for him. I can't imagine my 92 yr old Dad digging out an old bike & finding a way to delver it. it's enough for him to get himself anywhere!

Accept the gift with grace and you will make his day. He wants to give it to someone that will make use of it. A lesson I learned many years ago from a neighbor. His response to a gift worth several hundred dollars given to him, "A thanks and a smile is all I ask." Yeah, that has stayed with me all these years.

One of my bikes is 45 years old and was given to me by an old guy who had quit riding it. It's a 1974 Cinelli...

Austrian bikes are cool -- see my signature. The Capo factory was in Vienna, whereas Steyr-Daimler-Puch is in Graz.

Puch made a wide range of bikes, from entry level and basic to very nice high end racing and touring machines.

That was my experience with the Bianchi, which a neighbor gave to me when he gave up riding road bikes. He still gets a kick out of seeing me ride it, as did the owner of the shop where he originally bought it.

When your (rideable) bike qualifies to post in this 50+ Forum = it's probably kinda special.

My Frejus qualifies, with a few more coming close.

......and a 93yo at the gym is AMAZING.
Far more impressive than a 45yo unused bike.

I'd like to see a pic of the guy more than the bike!

I picked up that Puch, which is a Classic model, and his wife's Raleigh Assault MB. They refused to take any money. I threw $100 into the MB and gave it to my DIL. According to the LBS it's heavy but solid. The Puch sits in my garage. No one wants it.

1970's Puch, Austrian pushbike design at its best, reliable and expensive in its day. Which model, Bergmeister, Super Sprint or Prince? There would be collectors out there but you could always strip it down and rebuild it over winter and have a new toy to roll on come spring!

It says "Classic" on the frame.

Classic may be the name that model was called in the states, there was a nice 70's Puch up for sale on a steel bikes site that was called classic but no name on the frame.

Ive heard the Royal Force called classic bit it's not labeled that way on the frame.
Posting up any images?

I only find one reference to the Puch Classic, and it looks like a pretty nice bike. Shimano components, so not quite their top of the line. I'm sure people in the Classic and Vintage forum would be interested in seeing pics
