ESI grips installation safety

Are there any tips for safe installation of ESI grips? Next time will probably need to use some wooden board between other end of the handlebars and legs to avoid severe deep bruising caused by excessive pressure. Videos showed little effort with little concentration but in reality to put them on requires being aware of multiple steps at the same time and a lot of pulling.

Spray the bar and inside the grip with hairspray, then it just slips right on. Often just plain water works as well

Hairspray works well. Get one with a pump spray rather than aerosol. White Rain is cheap and a bottle of it is about a lifetime supply. It’s still a struggle and you may need to spray in more in the middle but it works.

I used isopropyl alcohol contained inside the grip by plastic bag and rubber bands.
Was hoping to test the bike soon after long summer break but looks like will have to postpone again due to bruising.

I use ESI grips and have always just liberally sprayed isopropyl inside the grip and slid it on.

I slid on a pair of ESI grips last night with some isopropyl alcohol within seconds they were on and in a short time they weren't budging. A very simple quick install no need to fuss and feud with them. For reference not that it matters but it was 90% Iso and they were the extensions on some Velo Orange Crazy Bars (V2) but in the end they would have slid on any bar. Probably the easiest grips I have installed in a while. The last time I did an almost exact same install but on Koga Denham bars they took a bit more but I think those extensions are chunkier more road sized than MTB sized so not the correct diameter for those grips but they are on and are perfect.

Just to be clear, the ESI grips I’ve installed have all been Extra Chunky which are a bit harder to install.

Matters not, get them and the bars wet with alcohol, non issue ive installed both.

Alcohol definitely evaporates faster in a dry climate than in a humid climate.

If you all are struggling that bad grab your longer 1mm Allen wrench needs to be longer than your grip. Or something similar, and slide the grip on with that under neath grip. It will allow an air gap and keep you from getting suction stuck. Once gripe is on, slide your Allen wrench out.

Perhaps it doesn’t matter to you but I assure you that I’ve installed many a grip. The ESI grips are by far more difficult to install than any other kind I’ve used. I know all the tricks and still find them difficult.
