Survived a New Rear Ride

The Happy New Rear Ride

After recuperating somewhat from the trials of last year.....I went out into the cold (well, cold for Texas) and survived a 29.5 mile ride, but BOY! am I tired. This time last year, it would have been a lark...this year it was work. Kind of depressing to think how much hard work went out the window. I was ready to SAG out halfway through, but I'm too stubborn for that and (masochist that I am) continued onward.

Oh, and to cap it off, the ride was supposed to be around 28 miles......I took a wrong turn and had to backtrack...did the same dratted hill twice. GRRR! Time for a looooong HOT shower...and maybe a nap.

(apres shower)

I feel almost human again.
Vital stats:
29.5 miles, Avg Speed 11.9 mph, and lots of going anaerobic on the hills (or what passes for them here) and finished last on that particular course.
But I did finish.
A step in the right direction.

Thank heaven that it was too cold for Doug (snake) to be out.

Congratulations on your ride! I only managed around 10 today, but that was enough. Maybe more this weekend :0)

Heh.
First ride you take you'll bury me.

Just realized, part of my problem today could have been the martinis and staying up to 3am this morning.......hmmmmm......

It made up to a balmy 40F today.

Got out on the road for a short ride and tried out the new bike fit (new lower/longer stem and seat further back). Liked the new position and that my knees don't hit my stomach when I pedal while using the drops!

Yikes! I just checked text times. You only racked up about 4 hours of sleep before you were answering my text

I bow to your Greatness in getting out there and accomplishing what you did. I stayed in and am working on overhauling both the cross bike and my road bike. Taking the occasional brake for a bowl game or two.

I'm jealous. It's too cold to ride today (-12ºC before the windchill and that's way outside my comfort zone).

Way too cold and too much ice on the roads around here. Did spin class yesterday and today. At least I have some time in the saddle!

I was up until 1:30 ish. Had to drive the family home. So it was a dry night for me. It worked out though. I compensated by eating more than my fair share of prime rib.

Haven't seen pavement in a week around my house and it was -5 F. yesterday. We won't be riding for a awhile, although my son is still commuting.

Sounds like you should commute with the cross country skis!
Your son (and anyone up north still commuting in sub freezing temps) has my admiration.
Give me summers over 100F anytime just don't get me colder than 32!

Grats on the ride! Does my miles on the stationary count? None yet this year, but I (think) start again Monday...

7 degrees, windy, and snowing right now...

Take it when and where you can get it.
Last January I came close to hitting my 300 mile challenge, stepped off a curb, and did a number on my knee.
That set the stage for the farce that 2009 became.
"Recover from one disaster? Here's another one for you!" (facepalm)
This year I'm not setting any goals.
Just gonna ride whenever and wherever I can.

Oops, got a little free form there for awhile....the answer to your question is, "yes."

One advantage to the cold winter weather is that Doug is hibernating.
