I have a good friend from college that lives in Plymouth. We could drop in on her family for lunch. They even have a pool. Im sure her husband would enjoy having his wife's ex and his friends in bicycle shorts hanging around and sipping mojhitos by the pool.

On second thought, that might not work out...

Well phooey, it's not looking good for me this time around folks. Perhaps if it goes well, we can try it again.

I'm not going to be able to make it either, I 'm hoping things work out if there's a next time. Of course next Saturday would have been perfect timing, that's been my group ride luck this year.

Well I suppose that three still qualifies as a group ride, though I was hoping for a better turnout.
BigPolishJimmy and Rob_U, sorry you guys can't make it, maybe another time.
I'm up for a ride most any Saturday or Sunday.

I should be there. If it's raining, I'm not gonna go. But as of right now, I'm going. Got the bike rack on the car, all my gear packed, all I gotta do is put the bike on the back. Since it's only a few of us going, should we just meet at Andiamos? That might make it easier since there's only a few of us getting together.

The trailhead is 1/2 mile east of Andiomos? Never mind about meeting at the resteraunt then.

Not 1/2 mile, right at the end of the parking lot on the east side of the building.
ziggydcat, hope your daughter is feeling better.
Maybe we just over planned this one, next time just post a couple of days before.

Got it Laserman. As for overplanning, not really. For me, anyway. I work every Saturday, so I need to plan that far in advance, so I can ask for the day off. Stupid work.

I would have liked to have made it, but had another Saturday morning commitment. If you try another this summer, I'll try and make it out for sure. Hope it went off well, the weather sure was nice.

Excellent Ride. MIH-Dave, petflunky and myself were the only ones who were there.
The weather was near perfect, mid 70's to start, low 80's at the end and low humidity.
We did encounter a charity walk on the closed portion of the road and nearly had to dive off onto the path as the walkers were taking up both lanes and most of the shoulders.
We took a dirt road off Hines into old town Plymouth and found a nice little deli on a corner where we rested and refueled.
The return trip was smooth with only a short delay as MIH-Dave's chain popped off.
I have ridden this area solo many times but I was surprised at how quick and easy it seemed with some company.
The quick part was entirely subjective, I'm not saying we were slow but we were twice passed by rollerbladers.
We left about 9:15 am and got back just before 2 pm. About 32 miles total.
MIH-Dave's wife met us at the end and snapped a picture of us at the trailhead. He will probably post it at some point.
There were hundreds of other riders out from people in their 70's to family groups with 5 year olds on training wheels to full kit roadies on a mission.
A very enjoyable ride and a very enjoyable day.

It was a fun ride. It's cool how easy and fun a ride seems when riding with good company. But we did get chided for riding two up on the shoulder. WTF LOL ??

Sounds like fun, hopefully I can make it to the next one (when is it?). I don't know if the 32mm road slicks on my Trek FX would do well on a dirt road though.

@petflunky ; Who did the chiding? Cops? Do you mean you were two abreast on the shoulder (vs single file)?

Rob

As for the next one I make a variation of this ride just about every Saturday that the weather cooperates, if you want someone to ride with just let me know.
The chiding came from some guy on a road bike who didn't want to bother to shoulder check and take the lane to pass. The shoulders on Hines Drive are 5 to 6 feet wide in most places so plenty of room to ride 2 abreast. I should have asked him why he didn't ring his bell to let us know he was overtaking, knowing full well that any roadie who shows up with a bell on his handlebars would be drummed out of the club.
The dirt road is a short stretch, maybe 1/4 mile? I had forgotten that it was dirt as I hadn't been that way in a few years and that was in a truck. The alternative is a very steep climb on a fairly busy road to another fairly busy road with 12 inch shoulders. We came back that way and the steep decent was a lot more fun than the climb would have been.

The dirt road wasn't bad on my 27x1 1/8 tires (I think it was even shorter than 1/4 mile). The "two-abreast" whiner didn't even give a "on your left" before trying to pass, else I would've dropped to single file to let him pass.

I didn't get a chance to get the pictures from the wife (I don't dare touch her camera). So I should have them up tomorrow morning.

I'm always up for riding Hines, but I usually do Sunday mornings and would need a little warning for a Saturday ride.
