I used a torque wrench and tightened them to the specified 40 N-m/30 ft-lb. I haven't removed it yet to assess the damage Any tips are appreciated.
The grease inside those bearings can be a little sticky at first (especially when it's cold outside) but I'm thinking your cups are a little too tight. Experiment a little. As long as there's no side-to-side play, the cups are tight enough.

Thank you. I really hope the bearings aren't destroyed.

So I removed the BB and one or both of the bearings are shot (probably over tightened). Is there way to replace these bearings without specialty tools or should I just send it to Phil?

I noticed their BB instructions spec 40 N-m and their all-in-one product torque spec sheet says 27 N-m. Interesting.

I would just contact Phil Wood's service department directly. They're very easy to deal with.

Dear Scrod,
Re: tipping mechanics - does the same rate apply as with food service? Or is there some scale that i'm unaware of?
I'd like to tip the mechanic who installed brakes/cables/bar tape. I'm relatively new to the shop so I don't know what his preferences are in terms of food/drank so cash it is for now.

There's no actual "scale" (that I know of anyway) but a few bucks up and over what the actual charge is can't ever hurt, as long as the mechanic deserves it.

People here give us all kinds of stuff from cash to donuts to beer to gift certificates to weird little toys and it's always super appreciated no matter what it is.

Scrod, have you ever taken the "Omnium" text off a set of the cranks? I want a set, but I think that logo on the crank arm is just ugly as hell.

Thank you for saying that...so many people love it and I think it looks like crap (partly because it isn't Scottish) however it still uses the GXP bottom bracket so even without the uggo logo crap cranks. Sugino 75 all the way!

The logo is laser-etched. You'd need to sand off quite a bit of material to get rid of it, then polish the crank arm (or have them re-anodized if you want black).

Lame. It's the one thing keeping me from getting a set, I just think it's a hideous text/logo design.

I got my Cinelli in the mail today, Scrod. No question here, just wanted to say thanks for the cool cockroach and thanks for being awesome.

To my bare eyes, it looks like the top of the head tube is dented like my Leader's was.... Hopefully I'm losing my mind. I'm taking it to have the headset pressed tomorrow and if the top bearing race won't seat I may lose my mind.

Thoughts on Brick Lane Frames, specifically the BLB Classic R? Really digging it but don't know much about them.. Whats the weight of the 56cm?

BLB makes nice framesets. The Classic R awesome if you're looking for something inexpensive but decent. The chrome lugs on the fork with the BLB logo on them look great.

I'm not at the shop to weigh a frame right now but it's what you'd expect a 56cm steel frame to weigh. Probably around the same as a Kilo TT of the same size.

Cool. Thanks for the insight -- Looking to build a new steel framed bike, just weighing out my options. I know that you love the Bareknuckle a **** ton, so that might be another option. DECISIONS DECISIONS

I know we've had a conversation about this via email but I just wanted to post here too so people didn't think I was ignoring you.

Cinelli is 100% amazing to deal with and I'm glad we were able to get you taken care of so quickly. You'll have your new frame early next week.
