Warranty Issue On My FXS6 Frame, Trek May Make Me Not Have An "FX"
I bought my 2017 FXS6 back on June 1, and right away I noticed a few problems with the frame, some very minor things I can live with, but there was one issue I couldn't ignore. The rear wheel never sat straight between the chain and seat stays. The issue was very slight, and it never gave me a problem with the way it rode, but I figure if you pay $2k for a bike it should be right. So after a bunch of warranties by changing the wheel, drop out mounts, and axle Trek finally gave in and decided to change out the frame.
Friday I get a call from the LBS and Trek sent me a new frame, but..., its a Domane S frame, its technically the exact same frame but it's gloss black, instead of the matte black, and instead of a FXS6 logo it has a Domane S logo. I wasn't happy, but then I started really looking at it, the new frame is a 2018 Domane disc frame, and it has some nice gray and silver accents that I kind of like. It will technically be a Domane bike, so I'm thinking if I was to ever re-sell it, I might get a few more bucks out of it. Another plus is the matte black on the FXS6 looks great, it looks awful after a day of riding and sweating all over it.
This could be a win win for me, what do you guys think ? Here's what I have now.
New frame and fork.

Youll be the only one with that frame, 18' FX has new hybrid frames. So if you want to be a "flat bar road bike Guy" you better keep it

I would think the gloss black would show dirt more than the matte black. Looks nice though.
Who is going to handle swapping the components over to the new frame? Is that handled by the LBS under warranty? Or is it your responsibility?

LBS is taking care of it all, they're going to swap out all my components, and they are going to fit a new BB bearing. Yes it will have a full warranty, they will transfer the serial number to me, but now it will be registered as a Domane S instead of a FXS6.

The top tube on a matte black carbon bike is hard to keep clean, Florida summers tend to make one sweat a lot. I'm thinking a nice gloss finish would be easier to clean, than having to deal rubbing down a matte black surface with Pledge.

When my '04 Specialized Sequoia developed a crack in the frame in 2016 I was given a '14 Secteur Elite frameset as a warranty replacement, but swapping the components over to the new frame was going to be at my expense. Fortunately, I have some tools and know how to do that stuff or it would have cost me a couple hundred Quatloos.

Bike went in today for its frame transplant, they say it will be ready Friday evening, fingers crossed, toes crossed, arms crossed, and eyes crossed. It's taken 3 months for this moment to happen, hope to be riding on the new frame Saturday.

How's it ride?
I'd be happy with the new frame. I don't personally care for matte paint finishes. Gloss is much easier to keep clean in my experience. I think it looks sharp.
