I'm guessing that the delivery problems were probably related to the custom graphics. Portland seems pretty clear about what is in stock and what isn't...

I'm interested in one or two jerseys, but I don't know from the thread who we're buying from or what the price has settled at, or even if it's settled.

What about womens' cut/sizing? I'd like to get one for Mrs. Road Fan as well, to go with her new EbayRoubaix.

OK... i've contacted EWR again (the guy never called me at the time we'd set up), and also asked them where their garments are manufactured. If their stuff is also Chinese made, and their pricing is considerably higher than Portland, then i'd be inclined to just work with Portland and see if we can get 10 orders lined up.

If place of manufacture is very important to you, I doubt you will find a place that doesn't get their jerseys from China. Woolistic is able to get jerseys from Italy but you have to make a large special order. I don't know the exact number but I would guess it is over 30.

I thought there was a shot with Ibex being made in the US and most of there stuff is except the cycling jerseys. Again this is only a guess but I would think the cycling jerseys are low volume and the best way to profit is to utilize low cost labor.

If you are looking for alternatives, this site lists a few. https://www.ultracycling.com/equipment/wool.html

I am interested in the EWNR jersey and have sent them couple emails regarding shipping to Canada. Never heard from them. Either they are really under-staffed, or they don't care business in Canada. Can't find a phone number on their website either.

We just aren't having any luck are we? If we were content with poly fibre we would not have had any trouble. But noooo, we want the real thing!

HEY! I am alive because 2 people (my parents) meet while sewing little alligators on sport shirts back in Hong Kong. And NO, there weren't any air conditioning, but they made a living and had money to go on dates. When I came along, mom stayed home and dad was able to feed us and take us out to the movies and dinners at a regular basis. Sure the pay was low, but so was the cost of living.

American business people are the ones creating the demand that fuels any exploitational behavior. When will we fix the way we teach our MBA's and how we reward them at the corporate level?

OK.. i finally talked to the guy from EWR. He seemed unwilling to give a solid number, but after i pressed him for a number, he said typically if we ordered about 12 of the same type of jersey (eg. short sleeve mens), there would be a 25-30% discount. He said that they can't go lower because they have agreements with the stores that sell their jerseys at retail. To split the difference, this means a jersey would come out to 81.40, or let's call it $83 with shipping, plus $11.20 for the re-sending business (higher because the more expensive jerseys incur higher PayPal fees), and you've got an EWR jersey for $93.20 via this rigamarole, instead of the normal price of $113 shipped.

But here's the kicker - the jerseys ARE made in China. Yes, the rep was quick to assure me, for what it's worth, that they are made in "established factories" that are not sweatshops, etc. However, the fact remains that these are Chinese made jerseys, just like the Portland ones, and what's more, i would be willing to bet that they are made in the same factory. How many factories in China are producing such a specialized item? If there are two or three tiny companies in the US importing 100% merino wool cycling jerseys from China, I'm almost sure they are coming from the same place.

So what it comes down to is this: we can pay almost double to buy what i think is most likely the equivalent jersey sold by a different company, just because the other company's rep is an arse. Or we can buy the jerseys from Portland and get a really good deal.

Frankly, at this point i'm all for the latter. That and i think Portland's designs look a bit nicer than EWR's, and don't have brand logos on them.

I'm ok with Portland. My thing is that I need mine by the first week of July.

OK.. i started a fresh thread just to coordinate a (hopefully successful this time) group buy, from Portland.

Even if you've indicated your interest in this thread, please leave a post in the other so we can keep things in one place..

It's here: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=303681
