Obviously metallic brake pads don't chew through disc rotors at an alarming rate?

I seem to be getting ~10,000 miles from my rotors. Reported normal life seems all over the place so I’m happy with that lifespan. That’s down to 1.45mm, I’m thinking of letting it ride until 1.2mm to see what the mileage is.

Ill stick with whatever koolstop uses for a compound.
Rims I thought this was a disc topic?

I got quiet performance, from KS Organic pads
when I replaced the BB7 Stock ones

Now changed calipers to TRP Hy Rd, KS
doesn't make organic compound there..
the pad style is shimano's, Swiss stop 15 is organic,
but I can get Clarks and Origin 8 for a lot less ,

Stock HyRd is sintered, a chirp is emitted, on front, when disc not dry..
and I use the brake.

Ceramic/carbon hybrid rotors were being produced as early as 2013.

"So far, even after the initial burn in and a couple of days’ riding, I have not yet experienced anything close to the same stopping power of metal rotors."

Most of what I have read about carbon or carbon/ceramic since has been more of the same.

By the way original Phil Wood Disc brakes, [way back]

the disc was made of the friction material, and the pads were metal.

My HY/RD came with TRP SP10.11 semi-metallic.

I always thought that semi-metallic, metallic and sintered were just names for the same thing.

The same with resin and organic.

Two types of pads - resin/organic vs semi-metallic/metallic/sintered.

That's my understanding.

Oh wait. There is also ceramic.

sintered pads are mostly metallic, semi-metallic have a lower proportion of metal and more organic material. Even organic/resin pads have a small amount of metallic compounds mixed in. Usually seen more on the MTB side
SINTERED
Downhill high temp
• Suitable for downhill racing
• Excellent in wet & muddy conditions
• Superior performance at high temps
• Virtually unaffected by rain or snow
• Exceptional pad life

SEMI-METAL
XC & trail
• Suitable for cross-country & trail
• All-round performance
• Good performance at high or low temps
• Great pad life
• Quieter than sintered pads

ORGANIC
Commuter & city
• Suitable for commuter & city use
• Good performance at low temps
• Good pad life
• Low rotor wear
• Extremely quiet
