Ride PGH is tomorrow!

Ride PGH is tomorrow!

Second time for me. Enjoyed last time, about 3-4 years ago. Certainly don't get that kind of climbing in central Ohio.

Anyone else here attending?

That's a ride around Pittsburgh?

When beautiful rural Pennsylvania is just a few miles outside of town?

I don't get it.

It's called PedalPgh. It's a fund raiser ride for the local bike advocacy group, BikePGH. There are three rides - 10, 25, and 62 mile loops around the city. It was well-attended based on what I saw on the street and on the news. I've never done it due to scheduling conflicts but it looks like fun. The 25 mile loop runs through a bunch of Pittsburgh neighborhoods with some climbs. The 62 mile loop is more adventurous.

LOL! Yeah, I guess it is - 13 of the steepest hills in Pittsburgh in a 50 mile loop. This year it's taking place on Saturday October 22. https://www.bikereg.com/pittsburgh-dirty-dozen

I prefer the rural rides - but the rides closer to the city can also be fun and rewarding

Ok... so Pedal PGH, excuse me!

Successfully rode 62 mile route! Little over 4100 feet of climbing. Was a great time, friendly riders of all types. Families, groups and single riders from other cities. Out of 62 miles we only had two drivers get rudish with us! Had many, many drivers accommodating us letting groups of riders pass thru at intersections with friendly waves.

Uphills were a grind but great for a guy that struggles to get more than 600 feet in 25 miles locally.

Another reason we enjoy this type of ride is seeing the large variety of bike types, brands and set ups. Didn't ask 'em what route they were on, but saw several single gear riders. Around 5 recumbents (including two tandem 'bents!) and one BMX bike rider (younger guy). Plus a rider who actually looked like he just got off work, put his rider number on and started riding, blue jeans, work shirt and steel toe boots.

Had a great pre-ride dinner at Giorgio's Place on Western Ave. Scratch made pasta and meat sauce, garlic bread w/pesto & cheese, awesome!

Cheers!
