A few of these pop up once in a while on CL and I'm wondering if anyone here has one or similar, what the weight is?
A rough bathroom scale weight is fine, not that much information on these.

According to this, from the 1984 catalog on the Sheldon Brown website, based on a 23" frame = 23.75 lbs.

I've got a Centurion Elite 12 with a Champion No. 2 Tange frame sticker on it. I'm not sure, but I think it's about a 1982 model. It's got a pretty burgundy metal flake paint job with a gray head tube on it. It's equipped with Shimano 600 components. Thread-on freewheel. It's a great ride. Never weighed it. But, feels like it's around 24lbs. Well worth the $185 I paid for it a couple years ago.

Most Centurion can be dated by the serial number, as the formats have decrypted for most of the Centurion contractors.

Not a Centurion, but this might help. I have an 83 SR Semi Pro with Tange 2 sticker. 54cm ST, 56cm TT. With the Tange Pro headset and the Shimano 600 BB(and spindle) included, the frame/fork combo weighed 7.15lbs. My 87 Centurion IM 56cm frame/fork (Tange 1) weighed 7.45lbs with Tange Levin headset and Shimano 105 BB/spindle.

I had an '80 Elite that was heavy, approx 27lbs due much in part to the heavy 27x1.25" gumwalls. They were heavier than the name suggested.

Lemans RS or Elite RS Tange 2 frame at 58cm = 2.2 oz more than a Tange 1 Ironman frame at 58cm.

Sorry about my lack of posting pictures & such recently. I've ditched my MS based laptop for a Chrome book. Haven't mastered the whole .jpg file storage thing yet. I think I need to just do a flash drive thingy to get the pictures back up. My Centurion collection includes an Elite, a Lemans &, an Ironman Expert. Love them. Those crafty Japanese really moved in on the whole Italian Campy thing in the 80's. IMHO these Centurions are superior to most of the stuff (mainstream stuff) coming out of Italy during the same time.

You don't pics to post a serial number and determine the year. Regardless, we know it's post 1979 and pre-1984. So far, the only Elite 12 that have surfaced have been from 1983.

Champion #2 tubes are virtually identical to Columbus SL, so I've expect a frame from #2 tubing to weight about the same.

Looks like pictures came through. Yay! These were taken when I brought it home a couple years ago. Haven't done a thing to it since then except put a new rear tube on it & ride it around Stone Mountain. Got it up to 37mph going down hill one time. Currently my favorite ride.

The New 600EX components are a later, indexing upgrade, as these they are 1986-1987. The bicycle is older than that, based on the decal style and head badge. Given the Dia-Compe brakes and what appears to be a Sugino crankset, it almost certainly used SunTour for the OEM derailleurs. Again, all you have to post is the serial number.

So, you think it was originally all Suntour? Hmmmm..... It's got a Suntour front derailleur. I'll post serial number soon. Thanks.

Boy that's a cool red Elite!
The one I'm contemplating on getting is the Elite RS with 700c wheels, the black one, as shown in many pics. Seller is asking 100. Has the shimano 600 hardware.

I concur. The frame was definitely manufactured for aero style, down tube shifters. This would positively date the bicycle as a 1983 model, as SunTour did not offer aero shifters until 1983 and the Elite 12 was not catalogued in 1984.

I gave $185 for mine. So, at $100 it looks like a pretty good deal to me.

I have an 85 Elite RS with a 62cm frame. Somewhere in the 24 to 26 pound range sounds about right.


It rides very, very nice, the only problem is the frame is way too big for me. I strongly recommend you pick one up, you will not be disappointed.

If anyone has a lead on an Elite RS in teal/silver, (I'm guessing I bought mine in '85? '86?) in roughly 54-56cm size, I'd love a PM. I got rid of mine about a dozen years ago when we moved, and I'd like to get one back now and restore it...

I weighed mine recently with a cheap spring loaded luggage scale. Came in at 23lbs.

Saw your want for a 54-56 Elite RS in teal/silver. I have one and it's too small for me. It's a terrific looking and riding bike and I was hoping to trade mine for the same in 58-60, but have been unable to find one so far. I'd consider selling mine. Don't have enough posts to PM you, although this one may get me to the bar. If not, I hope you set notifications on the thread and see this.

FYI according to the Tange catalog, the #2 frameset weighs 2290g's. Tange 1 is 2220g. It weighs less than a pound more than Prestige Super Light.
