There are many different things that can go wrong with a bike and the best "tool" for the job is information about how to go about doing the repair.

Maybe the OP can tell us what repairs he does on his bike, that is if he actually rides a bike.

It can be, though it doesn't always have to be so.

1. most common repair: replace flat tire tube

Least common repair: replace old drop handlebars with upright handlebars.

Average in the middle repair: replace broken brake or shifter cable.

Replacing a chain is a common repair and can be a headache the first time or two you attempt it. The oily mess, getting the right length, holding it in place to get the quick-links on and off. I could see having a tool that would hold the chain together and give you some slack, show you the right link to break, and help with removing a quick-link.

It's also against the rules on bikeforums. I usually ban as spammer and they never appeal

A person would have to ride bikes for years to gain this knowledge through experience. Asking others about their experiences just makes sense.

1. Flat tires. And #2 isn't even close.
2. Barrel adjustment for shifters (is that really a repair, though?)
3. Chain replacement.

I've replaced broken pedals once. I had poor shifting on my two new bikes I bought last year. One went back to the shop three times and the other I fixed myself.

Tools? Nothing, really. There are numerous tools for fixing flats or preventing them in the first place. And the existence of barrel adjusters and set screwscertainly puts basic shifting adjustments in the hands of typical riders. The most important "tool" I can think of is learning basic skills to do this yourself.

Why is this thread being revived? OP just posted an insult after 5 full months of silence.

I have a Fuji Altamira that I have put over 9k miles. Only 2 flat tires, and chain replacements.
