Please Help me Identify my Gios
Hello all I just bought this and can't figure the model. All the physical signs say "Super Record" ; coins, geometry, Campy group, cable guides on top tube, but there is a professional decal and the the weird placement of the Columbus decal as well.
It has a Gios panto on the BB drilled campy dropouts and tapered seat stays. Also the BB cutout is consistent with a pre-84 model my guess is its an 83 because of the group and the decals.
The last wrinkle is that my LBS told me it was likely one of their old team bikes they had custom ordered in the early 80s. He was to young to know for sure but he said they we all white and ran Campy parts.
All you Gios experts chime in please! Thanks in advance.

have you checked the detail with the distinguishing features at
Come Riconoscere una Gios - Biciclette Gios - Le originali Made in Italy > How to recongise a Gios
and compared the key features with the bikes entered in the register?
Le Gios Iscritte al Registro - Biciclette Gios - Le originali Made in Italy > The Gios Recognised Register
If it is still a puzzle include the photos required when registering
Iscrivi la Tua Gios
and email Marco info@giostorino.it
and ask for his assistance.
here is a Professional with top tube cable guides

We sold 2-3 Gios frames and shop assembled bikes every year during the 1970's. White wasn't very common...
From the picture, appears to be a respray. Whoever did the painting didn't know squat about Gios decals (or classic bikes in general)?
As you mentioned, the Columbus decal is on the back of the seat tube - WHAT! Also the fork decal in on the rear of the top tube! Gios as well as many other Italian builders never put Columbus stickers on the forks...
Aside from that, it looks like a late 70's to early 80's Super Record.
The 2nd generation Campy 4001 Super Record rear derailleur was introduced in 1978 and lasted into the late 80's. Since these were sold as bare frames, component dating is not a very accurate way to determine the age of the frame.
Is the head badge riveted on or is it a decal? More pictures with some closeup shots on the lugs, fork crown, dropouts, and BB shell would help.
As far as it being a LBS "Team Bike", like you say, "he was too young to know"...
About 3 years ago I finally got a Gios (after about 37 years - scratch one more off the bucket list).
I built up as an old man's bike with a 13-32T FW and 50-35 chainrings. It's fun to ride with sewups but I forgot how "crisp" Gios frames are!

Hi and thanks to all of you. Each comment cemented my suspicions about it being a resprayed Super Record. I even found a fleck if Blue paint under the white which sealed the deal.
Thank you.
Thank you.

ITALIAN CYCLING JOURNAL: The GIOS Historic Registry
Here's a nicely restored 1982 Gios Super Record from the Gios Registry website:
https://www.giostorino.it/images/stor...ostorino08.pdf
My Gios Super Record is a 1979 to 1982 model. There weren't many changes during those years. They had painted forks with coins in the fork crowns. The early ones had gold coins. Later they changed to silver coins. Gios used riveted head badges in those years.
Head tube decal. Pre 1979 and maybe post 1982.
My BB shell. No Serial number, just 56 for 56cm.
Older pre 1979 style BB shell with Gios logo.
Before 1979 and after 1982 the Super Record forks were chrome plated.
.... Just one more thing....
We sold Gios frames during the 1970's. I never saw a complete bike come from Gios.
The frames came in Styrofoam form fit boxes with a Gios pantographed stem, seatpost, large chainring, a plus Gios water bottle, hat and jersey.
Mid 70's
1981

From what I recalled white was not introduced the year that model was made. The bike is a Gios, however it is not a Professional.
1. Decals are incorrect.
2. Professional has an internal cable
3. Interesting variation, all super records had just water bottles on the down tube, yours has it on the seat tube.
4. I think this is a normal variant.
5. Should be blue so its a re-spray more than likely.
6. Fork Coins seem original
7. I will go with a super record built by the other brother.
