Good grief. Locally, at least, I think jay-walking is sometimes safer since many drivers turn w/o signalling or checking properly for pedestrians. Well, I hope you find an open border crossing.

Grief-

Well, today in Tj. No wait at the border pedxing. (Bicycles allowed-)
Never seen the Rio Tijuana so clean. The concrete river bed, on a normal day has the deported homeless living in it. On the glass encased walk way port of entry, above the Rio Rj, often there are a hand full of migration officers directing peole to this way or that way, and walk your bike. Today there are a few dozen Mexican migration people in nice clean shirts. The usual hand full of well armed soldiers were no where to be seen. żżż

At the Mall of the Americas, on the Gringo side of the border I saw for the first time soldiers in body armor riding quads.

At the Mcdonalds I saw a teen age girl from Hondarus working and learning english at the same time. Not an unusual thing in San Ysidro. So thin, so cute.
In Tj I saw a tent city with lots of people of liitle money.

Gordo says he gave them a sandwich, and they complained they only want pizza.

In Chula Vista, I saw, A pair of cycle tourists headed south. They looked lost. His bike had 4 bags and 2 racks, her bike had 4 bags and 2 racks, + the usual assortment of handlebar bags and such. Man, those bags were over stuffed and barely able to close, telephone map in one hand, steaming south, looking like they had pedaled from someplace far away.

During recent US national tv news reports it's irritating to hear anchors deliberately mispronounce Tijuana as "Tiajuana". Common mistake for avg folks but "Tiajuana" is not even accepted English spelling/pronunciation.

I just saw on the youtube that 4,000 migrants a day are entering Equador from Venezaula.
Tj got what 4,000 all together?
350,000 people are deported to Tijuana each year, nearly a thousand a day. Most of them got arrested for another crime first. Not j-walking a felony that envolves jail time. When you go to jail they must learn your true identity.
I think the news lady overstated the whole thing to get a rateing.
Guy at the hotel said ¨no me gusta,¨ then went back to watching an old western.
No big deal just another story to tell.
The stores are open. The migration guy looked happy when I answered him in Spanish. The migration guy on the Mexican side of the glass walk way in the video

Is that to put you closer to Baja Divide routes or because its possible to live cheaply in Mexico?

I asked if it was dangerous because you were posting links to confrontations at the border and pics of riot police.
What you are doing down there is really none of my business, but you keep posting these vague, stream of consciousness passages, and it makes me curious.
You seem to be crossing the border a lot and now you are posting pictures of young girls. Whatever you are doing, please be careful.

the little local businesses doing the crushing of the middle part of the plant by mill type stone have a particular smell coming from them. Hard to describe--kind of like tobacco leaf farm smell, but that strong smell is certainly one of the memories I have from biking past them in southern Mexico.

Not much of a drinker, so really didnt have any urge to buy any.

Im pretty certain these are the plants they use, cut off all the long bits when its grown enough, and then the centre part at the bottom has the outer tough stuff chopped off and the innards get sqwershed in a stone mill setup, often powered by a horse. Never took a photo of the luiquid extracting unfortunately.

Those are probably blue agave, used for tequila. Lots of the mezcal is wild harvested, 20-30 different kinds are used, depending on the region.

Lee, ya I never really paid enough attention, I know down in the south there were often the little operations with the horse and whatnot, but never visited one and the plants all kind of looked the same to me.
