I rode up to the top of Deer Creek Rd from PCH and just past its junction with Pacific View. With the road closures there isn't a way to get back to PCH except riding back down Deer Creek. Not a lot of fire damage, some small sections where fire came over the road but no telephone pole’s needing replacement like what is keeping Decker and the other roads south closed for awhile longer.
Santa Monica mountains.

it's a good ascent and reasonably short ......i usually stop for photography or just meditating into a beautiful view on descents so that isn't too bad either

How about GMR by night? Spooky scary.
GMR, Glendora Mtn Rd heading up toward Mt. Baldy.
Short version at night. 8 mile climb, 2300 ft gain.
Very dark till we reach a ridge about 4 miles up then the moonlight takes over and cyclists can see very well without lights.
Really strange coming down when people behind you have lights. Your are turning one way but your shadow is turning another. Takes a bit to get used to the descent with all the switchbacks and lights.
The road during the day, 8 miles of this.
