All I meant to do was make a joke about uptight considerations and rules over these little details...and it spawned a full blown discussion over the detail in question. Oh well!

I will reiterate that I think the bike is fantastic. And shiny.

Beautiful bike. I remember gawking at the Raleigh Pro's at Hartleys bike shop in Hinsdale, Illinois. The shop was about 10 miles from my house. Made a nice 20 mile round trip ride. Maybe pick up a Bicycling or Bike World mag when I was there.

Cable routing??? I picked up a Gitane TDF a few years ago that was all original including bar tape and cables. Cables were run in front of the bars. Bike originally sold at Wares in Milwaukee. Could be a midwestern thing. I always ran them behind the bars. I found I really liked the cables in front. My hands were totally free. Many times I have lifted my hand from the bars and caught myself on the cable. So now I run them in front of the bars. Makes sense to me.

So was 1980 the last year of the Raleigh Pro in that paint and Campy NR? I can only remember the Team colored bikes after that point.

I called on Charlie and Ken Hartley for 10 years when I worked for GT bicycles. Good folks!!!

Hey, You really didnt start this. I made the mistake of starting the discussion in this thread. I started another thread to continue the conversation.

Thanks for your input.

Exactly my experience and why I run cable in front of the bars.
