Bicycle Trainer Q
Hey folks. In the beginning of the year I am going to buy a bike trainer. I am looking to get a smart trainer that is compatible with Mac and Zwift. I also want one that is WHEEL-ON. The goal is under $500. So far there is one from Kinetic that seems great, as well as one called BKool. What are your thoughts?

I recently got a refurbished Wahoo Kickr Snap (the wheel on one) from Wahoo for $495. Couldn't be happier. Quite quiet as well.

You'll find that other trainers actually are rated as MORE quiet than the kickr. But honestly...there's only so much more quietness to be had. The majority of the noise from my kickr is from my bike drivetrain as it is. I would have zero issues riding while my daughter naps. Might even be able to do it in the same room...

Another vote for the Wahoo Kickr SNAP - if you put a slick rear tire on, the noise is all drive train and wheels spinning. Actually, the fan I use drowns out any of the bike/trainer noise, anyway!
If someone gave me the additional $$ for the wheel-off trainer and an additional cassette, I'd go with the Kickr Core. But with 2 years on the SNAP, it is reliable and good enough.

I vote for cycleops magnus, it's what I have, it works great. I will say though, wheel on trainers are a bit noisy, easily around 60db close up, and you'll need a pretty hefty fan which isn't going to help.

Same. Magnus is a great trainer. I've heard/used the Kick'r as well and it's no quieter than the Magnus. Pretty much all the wheel-on trainers I've heard produce generally the same noise levels. And yes, you'll need a big fan, which can be noisy. Although I picked up this tall tower fan from Sam's Club that does the trick for me and it's actually quiet quiet compared to my old fan.

If you want quiet go with a Kickr Core. It is more than you want to spend and it is wheel off, but it is also very quiet. And yes it works very well with a Mac and Zwift, which is how I use it. You hear drivetrain noise but nothing else.

But regarding riding while your son naps, I'd recommend getting a white noise machine to put in his room.
I did that for my two year old, and I can do any manner of noisy things throughout the house during nap time (and bed time) without disturbing her. Before, she would wake up at the sound of a pin drop...
