29 of 29. The city dropped a mountain of mulch in the middle of the road I usually take through the park. I have to say that this is best reason for a detour I've ever had! My shortest ride so far has been 10 km. I had expected to need to do one or two perfunctory rides during the month, but I'm pleased with how it has worked out. Now I just hoped I haven't jinxed tomorrow's ride by saying that!

Genetics have failed me
27 of 29. My 'rents were here on Sat, so chatting and playing board games was on the table.

28 out of 30. I really wanted to do 30, but it just didn't happen. Got roughly 680 miles in for April.

Day 23: 2.8 km walk
Day 24: 3.1 km walk
Day 25: 48.65 km cycling
Day 26: 25.6 km cycling
On Day 25, we decided to ride what would be my commute route if I were to ride a bicycle to work ... and then we did a bit of extra riding on flat ground before we headed for home. Our ride was 48.65 km in total ... my commute would be about 32 km of that. And the elevation gain was 937 metres, most of which was on the commute section.
I was pretty impressed that I did it, but it just reconfirmed why I ride the bus to work.

Day 30: 5.3 km walk
Total walking distance in April: 107.79 km
Total cycling distance in April: 384.15 km
I didn't cycle every day ... but I did move (walk or cycle) every day in April.

Congratulations to every one who cycled every day ... or most days ... in April.

I'm not able to cycle every day, but I do strive to be active every day ... cycling, walking, stair climbing, etc.
So far so good ... 6 days in and 6 days of activity. Including a couple days of cycling.

30 Days of Cycling in April
I didn’t take note of this challenge until I read this thread on 4/4 on the General Cycling Forum, ”30 Days of Biking”, posted on 3/17 with the first reply on 4/1. Sunday, 4/3, had been a rest day for me, and I have planned on a trip later in April with two non-cycling travel days.
Nonetheless, back in March I had made an intense commitment to near-daily cycling for 90 days. (I'm writing in detail, because this program has totally turned my cycling lifestyle around, if anyone is interested. )
So we’re now into Week 4 and here are my results week by week. The participants choose each particular individual activity from a drop-down list of 27 activities (my strong suit is “cycling outside”) then intensity (light, moderate, and vigorous), and duration in five minute intervals. An algorithm converts this data into “steps,” and equivalent “miles” (Activity Miles), as well as corresponding Bunker Hill Monument climbs and Boston Marathons.
For my intensity on my rides I use Relative Perceived Exertion. I warm up for 6 miles at an RPE 50% (moderate), and the rest of the ride is at 60% RPE, with a few 2 minute 70% intervals on hills (vigorous).
Week 0 was a typical winter schedule. Week 1 I was trying to adjust my work/ride schedule to accommodate more riding, and between Weeks 2 and 3, I took a few vacation days, to include two full traveling days without cycling. This week, I plan to start my 10-week century training schedule. The Moderator was not available, so no results were posted after Week 2.
I have listed my Cycling Miles for the week, the cumulative “Activity Miles,” My current standing for the week out of the 40 participants, and the cumulative Activity Miles of the First and Tenth Places.
Week 0 / Cycling Miles = 28 / cumulative Activity Miles = NA / My Standing = NA / 1st to 10th Place cumulative Activity Miles =NA
Week 1 / Cycling Miles = 59 / cumulative.Activity Miles = 14.31 / My Standing = 25 / 1st to 10th Place cumulative Activity Miles = 114.52 to 25.85
Week 2 / Cycling Miles = 58 / Activity Miles = – / My Standing = – / 1st to 10th Place Activity Miles = –
Week 3 / Cycling Miles = 56 / cumulative Activity Miles = 120.77 / My Standing = 5 / 1st to 10th Place cumulative Activity Miles = 347.23 to 90.85
Week 4 / Cycling Miles = 98 / cumulative Activity Miles = 201.86 / My Standing = 4 / 1st to 10th Place cumulative Activity Miles = 453.66 to 131.86

Just last week, I posted to this thread on the Fifty-Plus Forum, "What is your average miles per week (or hours) for us old guys..."
I have previously posted to this thread, "Why didn’t I ride"
My job; either too much to do, so I stay (comfortably) overnight and resume very early in the AM, missing my commute; or have to travel afar for a meeting.
Having a mileage-based training schedule however, effectively motivates me to make time to ride…
And to a lesser extent, family activities…
I have the opportunity to commute a minimal 14 miles one-way during the week (Commuter Rail home), and round-trip on Saturday all year-round, for about 100 miles a week. During the nice weather, I’d like to put in about 150-200 miles to train and do long rides.
In reality though, I probably get in about 20-30 miles per week during the winter, and maybe about 75-100 during the nice weather (to include early evening rides).

Just this week, I was presented with a golden motivation to achieve my optimal mileage. The organization I work for is promoting an "Activity Challenge," for teams of five members to track their physical activity: type, intensity and duration, from March 6 to June 6, and points are assigned. Two of my co-workers are on an opposing team. Results will be posted weekly [...TRASH TALK... ].
That may be just what I need to “win this one for the Gipper.”
For my amusement I’m thinking about posting my weekly results on this thread. I figure public pride (or humiliation) here is an additional motivator.

I tried to this a couple of years ago, two years in a row, I think. I commute using a combination of bike and bus five days a week, so you'd think it'd be easy, but I've yet to complete a whole month. Somehow there's always that one Saturday where the weather is unpleasant, and I'm unmotivated, and I never get on the bike.
Trying again this year, though. The trick for me is finding something to do on the weekends. I'm terrible at riding for the sake of riding, and I really need a destination. Last weekend I had reason to visit the bike shop one day, and other day I decided to bike to the brewery and fill my growler. Hopefully I can continue to come up with excuses. 7 out of 7 so far.

Despite the fact that April has been exceptionally busy, I've continued to walk and/or cycle every day in April. It's good for stress relief.

Tried to ride every day in Apr and made it 17 days in a row but then one morning I was just tired and drove to work. I'll see if I can make it the rest of the month without a break.

I'm 26 for 26 this month. One day was only 2.02 miles, but it followed an almost-50 mile day.
4/30 EDIT: Rode every day!
