What was Dennis thinking?
I think he was insane to just leave the race. If he had a fight with management, abandoning is not going to get him a contract with another team.
Anyone?

He issued a vague statement that clarified nothing. Team hasn't said anything of value either.
He has a reputation for being mercurial and touchy. Best guess is that something relatively benign set him off and he overreacted.

Hincapie heard it had something to do with him not being happy with team equipment. Hopefully we'll have something clear soon.

Haven't you ever wanted to tell your bosses to as David Allen Coe put it:
"Take this job and shove it, I ain't workin' here no more"?
When you have real talent you can take it elsewhere.
Good for RD, and yes It Does Feel Great to do so and did me no great "career harm" and quite a lot of Good.

I would think that if he did just quit, because of some argument with management, regardless of particulars, it seems like he should be in some legal trouble with not living up to his contractual obligations.

He doesn’t like the bikes. With the same watts he is losing time compared to last bike and team equipment. . Bike is slower than his last year bike (info from the move podcast).

Upon approaching Dennis and asking if he could spare “one minute for a few questions,” I was served a vicious stare and a reply that’s best left unpublished on this site. Needless to say, it was typical of the rider who, can sometimes be prickly with the media.

Still kind of baffling.
My wife, a non-cyclist, thought it was weird that I thought it was weird though. She figured people quit constantly because it's such a long, hard race.
I told her usually unless they're really, really sick or injured, they'll keep going. Which to someone who doesn't race probably does sound crazy.

My kid was kinda that way about equipment, as I was. They are racing for 15 sec diff or so. If along with everything else like having to work extra hard, the equipment is not dialed in, an ITT current WC may want to just not play than turn in a bad time. I don't think he handled it well, but I understand it.
If he was a mid level rider, who cares if he gets 20th or 50th, or 150th. But he was going for the win and felt it was out of reach.
As a fan, I think an ITT win would have looked better for the team than where I think there GC guy will finish. But then, I don't know what his agreement was.

What happened to converting the bike you like to your team’s colors?
Are they so unique now that that would stand out too much?

Bahrain Merida has Vincenzo Nibali on the team riding the same bikes. Whatever the issue is I'm rather disappointed in Rohan for just pulling out like that and unfortunately I don't see it as a good long term career move.

Regardless, the point is that we don't know, as of yet, why he pulled out. I've heard of two theories (rumors) so far:
1. He didn't like his TT bike.
2. He didn't want to work for Vincenzo Nibali, in order to save his legs for the stage 13 TT.
Seems to me that either scenario is an issue of him failing to meet his contractual obligations and lead to legal problems, but that's just speculation...

Who are the Bill Belichick / Phil Jackson types of the UCI World Tour? The ones that can take the problem children and riff raff of the league and have them get on board?
Rohan is in the TT rainbow jersey. He'll find a ride for next year. Maybe it costs him a few wallabies in negotiating position. I bet he gets a good bike, though.
If he keeps his mouth shut and doesn't write the winning testimony for the prosecution, he'll survive whatever contract dispute nonsense there is.
He's prickly personality, or so everyone is now saying as background to say something about this incident, but he's no Bouhani.

What brand bike was he riding?
I ask because the next time someone asks "which bike should I buy?" on this forum, we can give him the brand NOT to buy.
