Exactly, they think that we're all out for some leisurely little ride, and aren't trying to get to work, or a doctors appointment, or any of the hundreds of places that they themselves are trying to get to. Cause, after all we're just some "pain in the arse cyclist."

How do you figure? NOT only do they not have the right to block the MUP or sidewalk the also do not have the right to block the street. But that isn't what I was talking about with on street parking. I have encountered far too many cars parked on the street, especially when the person parking has a driveway. And they're taking up a 1/4 or more of the travel lane. And worse in one of the areas that I ride people will park in curves as well.

The problem with that way of thinking is that it empowers them to think that as long as no one is complaining I can keep doing it. It is wrong and people need to speak up when they see it happening.

Don't get your spandex in a knot unless you find out why the vehicle is where it is. Utility, service, construction and delivery vehicles routinely block lanes of traffic, parking lanes, sidewalks, paths, etc. often with legitimate reasons to temporarily do so. Far more irritating, than a random utility vehicle on a path, are inconsiderate drivers who think the bike lane is just extra parking.

Far too many motorists think that they can stop/park wherever the hell they like. I have personally encountered this while out walking and using the MUPs. People will "ignore" the stop line and stop so that they are blocking the crosswalk and then look at the pedestrian or the cyclist on the MUP like they're the one who is "crazy" for not being "grateful" for the little bit of space they left them in the crosswalk to cross in.

OTOH- it's a pretty minor thing, and easily addressed or ignored depending on ones mood, but if anyone considers it worth crying about, they are enjoying an otherwise wonderful life.

Every now and again, the entire Santa Ana river trail is blocked by a service vehicle, police car, or even on a few occasions, a skiploader. Never even once have I thought, "How inconsiderate." People doing their jobs. I got stuck behind a police car on the Pacific Electric Trail for over a mile-- and he never exceeded 15mph. No big deal. It is amusing that people on here get so in a twist about a truck on a trail, though.

Yes well you can't have it both ways, Service vehicles have to park to repair roads and services, delivery trucks have to park to drop off all our bike parts and cabs to drop off travelers. This is the real world I'm talking about, not the world that lives only in the mind of cyclists who expect not to ever have to slow down, or God forbid, get off their bike and push it around an obstacle.

FWIW, another day out of work, another day of *GASP* having to slow my car down to 10MPH to eek my way around a truck parked on the road behind my work. Don't they understand I'd rather hotdog that corner at 60MPH?

Bike lane stripes went on the street in front of my workplace last week, then a few days later a crew was bolting bollards to the road. Yesterday a car was parked in between two bollards in the bike lane... an undercover police officer! I said as I passed, "it's illegal to park here". I looked back and he was moving.
The bollards are a nice thought, but all I can think of is that when there's snowfall, the snow will be plowed into the bike lane, leaving the now-16-feet-narrower street for me to ride in.

But then the merchants will shovel snow INTO the bikelane.
Montreal shows how it is to be done. They not only remove snow from the streets, and the bikelanes, but the sidewalks too.
On the bright side, it could be worse. You could be Boston, where snow gets removed from parking spaces, then guarded with furniture, damn the streets, bikelanes and sidewalks.

Oh no! You mean one day every couple of weeks I might have to take 5 seconds to ride around a parked vehicle. The horror! We should probably call in the national guard on this one.

As sadly it seems like the vast majority of motorists do not have the slightest bit of respect for either cyclists or pedestrians. I don't personally find that to be the case here. "The vast majority of motorists" here are most courteous with a few exceptions. But I live and ride in a mostly rural setting.
And that when they pull up to an intersection that instead of stopping behind the stop line they'll pull up and stop in the crosswalk . Here, oftentimes you have to pull forward to get a clear line of sight to determine when it is safe to pull out. But I live & drive in a mostly rural setting.
Also think about most of the commercials for cars. Their purpose is selling cars, what would one expect?
In this country we are WAY too dependent on privately owned automobiles. Americans love their freedom and their cars. Public transit isn't available or even feasible except in very limited areas. I live and commute in a rural area, and live in a small town, absolutely dependent on my automobile. If that places me in your judgment/opinion "way too dependent" category, sorry, I don't care.
Cities, counties and states NEED to invest MORE money in public transportation.
Cities, counties and states have no money. Government has no money. The resident taxpayers are the revenue source. There is a limit to what they are willing to fund. I live in a mostly rural area. Public transportation isn't even feasible to cover probably over 90% of this county, geographically or population wise and I'd venture that is the case with the rest of the country.
Making the routes so that they are convent for the average person to use, as well as making the fare so that it is affordable for the average person to use. Who gets to decide who the average person is and what is convenient? What's convenient for one may be inconvenient for another & vice-versa. Again I live in a mostly rural area, as do a vast number of citizens, it simply isn't logistically possible to make it convenient or affordable for the "average person to use."
I spend three days a week at one of the two local VA facilities. It takes three buses one-way for me to get to the VA (if I was to take the bus), regular fare ONE-WAY is $2.25. That's $6.75 for the three buses, just one-way. And that's $13.50 round trip and that is for just ONE day. For three days, it's $40.50 and for the month of just going to and from the VA it would cost, figuring an average of four weeks per month $162.00.
So who SHOULD be paying for your travel costs? Some people choose other modes of transportation. Some are cheaper (commute by bike) some may be a bit more expensive (commute by car) that's life. But your illustration of how you take three buses one way (I'm assuming 6 buses two ways) is a pretty good illustration as to why Americans are "way too dependent on on their automobiles".
Sadly, far too many people treat both having a drivers license and driving a car as some sort of "god given right," and NOT the privilege that it is that can be revoked for any reason. And sadly, it is NOT revoked often enough. It cannot be legally revoked for "any reason".
Maybe IF more people permanently lost their drivers license it would finally sink in that owning one and driving a car is a privilege and NOT a "right."
Wow...all over parking on a MUP and a cyclist having to go around the work truck?

That could be kind of nice - one ROARING day then peace and quiet for a fortnight.
We *EXPECT* work crews not to block the path unless they MUST block the path.
The last time we had landscaping crews completely blocking the Minuteman:

If there is vehicle on the bike path...ride around it. Pretty simple stuff for something that is obviously only there temporarily
