Is there any other places that list crit, TT, and road races in my area (MA), besides BikeReg.com? I don't see many listed for 2012.

That's normal. It takes a while for the schedule to fill out. If you're trying to plan out 2012, look at the events results for last year. There's no guarantee that last year's races will repeat in 2012 but most of them will. You can also check ne-bra.org. They'll start to put up their calendar after the winter meetings.

Check here as well. Not all races use BikeReg

https://www.usacycling.org/events/index.php?state=MA

Keep checking the various places because they may not get listed until all the paperwork from the promoter is complete. (or whatever the final step is)

Would I be better off entering, as a first race:

A) 35 minutes crit
or

Well, you're probably going to get dropped in either. You probably have no idea what your strengths or weaknesses are. If the official pulls lapped riders in the crit, it could be a short day. If you get dropped in the road race, at least you get a training ride. Since you have given us nothing to work with, that's all I got.

Have you actually read this sticky, or did you read the Cliff Notes?

As the crit is on Saturday and the road race is not until the following day, it sounds as though the crit will be your 'first' race, followed by the rr on Sunday.

Next......

Land Park/Bariani right? Do both. You'll have 29 hours to recover between races.

I don't think I'd have the strength to do two races in two days, though. And yeah, Land Park / Bariani.

Unless you really can't afford the time or money, do 'em both anyway. Use what you learn Saturday to do better Sunday. That could be as small a thing of finding a good wheel to follow until you get dropped - look for that same wheel or a better one, on Sunday.

LP/Bariani is fun for me because it's like a mini-omnium. The crit is fast, except for those two pinch points on the backside that require some thought and skill. The road race is wide open, flat (apparently even more so this year), and totally exposed to the wind. Racing in the wind is a skill that every racer needs to learn, especially in NorCal. You will learn so much in two days: about fitness, about following wheels, about when to get in the wind (rarely), about when to stay out of the wind (almost always), etc., etc.
