You may come to find it actually is kind of special after you've spent more time on it. Nice bike!

snazzy! if they would have had those available in my size, i might have made a run at one. the blue looks a lot better than i thought it would in just the frame shots. really nice. which tires are you thinking?

I was thinking that I'd get Challenge Grifo's in 34 for the tubular wheelset, Kenda SB8's and Michelin Mud's for the clincher.
If I decide to use the carbon wheelset pictured, I'll put some Vittoria Evo XG's (that's the mid-profile one, right?)
And at my shop for training tires, we've got tons of Kenda Kwick's and Kross Supreme's that we got for cheap.

I have to admit, my MTB conversion is a bit pain on the back. the toptube is a bit too long. but recently a nice friend of mine offered me an old 700c steel road frame for less than $10. let's see what my hacksaw, grinder and welding torch can do about it.

as for now, keep posting great bikes, fellas. you're all my inspiration.

Hmmmm, did you by chance yell at me at Java Johnny's "Sick bike man, I've got the same one" or something like that?

If not, we're bike twins.

A few of you were watching the progress with this bike and I'm proud to say that I finally finished it today! I installed the brakes (Tektro CR720's with KoolStop Salmon pads) and my boss finished them off for me and they actually stop REALLY well. I thought that canti's, and long pull canti's on top of that would stop like mush, but they're great!
The tires are some cheap Kenda Kwick's in 25mm with a wire bead and reflective sidewall, but they cost $3 a piece and they're just for kicking around. My Challenge Grifo's and Kenda SB8's will be here tomorrow, and I've got a set of $3 Kenda Kross Supreme's in the basement too.

Anyways, with the looks, something is a little off. I like the tape/hoods/saddle, but at the same time, something is a little off. And insight?

i don't know, man, it already looks pretty sick. you may be like me and are never satisfied. iirc, you were a mechanic for a while too, and it seems like mechanics always see faults in their own rides no matter how much time we put in or how much other people drool over them.

i think the blue tape and white hudz are the business. you could change out the hoods to red or the blue (hudz actually makes them in that light michelin pro race blue) and you could change the bar tape as well. another thing would be getting red or white cable housing for a little bit extra.

personally, even if cost were no issue, i would leave it exactly the way it is. if i had to modify, i would probably switch the bar tape to white and the hoods to red or blue. again, that is only if i had to change something. i think you should leave the cables black since the fork, stem, seatpost, and crank are all black.

well done.

Ditch the blue bar wrap ASAP, eventually change the seatpost/stem to the same brand. Trim the steerer. That's all minor style points, though. Functionally the bike looks rad.

I think it's the tires. Those reflective sidewalls are distracting from the bike.

I like it. But like you, I would probably tinker to no end trying to get it just right. Since you have a good phot, maybe photoshop some things to see what works best. And I agree, those sidewalls don't help the overall looks.
ps I've pm'ed about this bike before but never asked about size. If you don't mind, what is your inseam and what size is the bike? I only ask b/c of the high bb and I'm concerned about mounting the thing.
Thanks, and nice build

Thanks for the compliments, everyone.
Like I said, those tires are just for training. I got some Small Block 8's and some Challenge Grifo's today at work. It'll look better when it's in race trim and with the new tubular wheel build coming up.
I also decided to put some grip tape on the sides of the Eggbeater pedals and also on the shift paddles, because I can see myself losing grip on them at least once. I might end up putting more on the brake levers.

Even though I answered your question in PM, bsedwick, I'll put it in here.
My roadbike is a 55cm traditional geometry Serotta with a 120mm stem, and the Guerciotti is a 54cm with a 130mm. My inseam is 33" and I'm 5'10".

i love my TCX01 ... for an aluminum frame, it handles really rough terrain well. raced it several times now, and no complaints.

I work for a giant and Raleigh dealer.
Giant was out of CX bikes until Oct 12 (back in mid-September) and Raleigh was out until March '10. Needless to say, I couldn't use my employee discount and swallowed the cost of a new Guerciotti.
