Stop Cycling after Hernia Surgery?
Will undergo inguinal hernia surgery in June.
Will I able to cycle again after I recover?
If yes, will that risk hernia recurrence.
Any thots?

I have two friends who have had hernia surgeries within the last two years. I don't know if they underwent the same procedures as yours, but both of them were able to fully resume cycling at their previous level once they recovered. I think both were off the bike for approximately three weeks. Neither has had a recurrence, as far as I know.
I would think your doctor would be able to address your case more accurately than the public.

10's of thousands of miles here after 2 hernia surgerys years apart. 1 open cut, 1 arthroscopic.

Depends on age, I had mine pretty early at 25 and was fine after in terms of riding. Recovery is different for everyone, but if you are honest with your intentions with your physical therapist, they will be able to give you a realistic expectation: could be bike ready in 4 months, or 12, or they might suggest recumbent, etc.

I had a reaction to the mesh which took some time before it settled down. And there’s some recurring discomfort after long rides which maybe has left me a bit more cautious. Haven’t tried any multi-day touring since the repair. But for everyday riding it’s not a problem at all. I can still do my 6000 mile/year commutes, the long road rides and the MTB XC marathons.

Surgery 4 years ago. Took 2 short rides a week or so later, then back to pretty much my regular riding. No issues since then.

I have had mesh repairs done on both sides - never had any issues of any kind, including over 40,000 miles on the bike. You will be fine to ride as hard as you want after recovery from surgery.

Hi
March 2021 I had inguinal hernia repair, procedure was minimally invasive technique. Surgeon Installed mesh.
Surgeon said no cycling for 6 weeks. During recovery period I power walked daily.
After recovery period was back on bike with minimal fitness loss.
Zero post op issues, you will be fine.

I had mine done in January with a mesh laparoscopically. Surgeon said I could do what I want whenever I felt up to it. My abdomen muscles were quite sore at first but I was on the bike in about a week. 100% recovery took about a month.
